Date: February 29, 2012 01:32PM New to wheat grass. How do you deal with mosquitoes and wheat grass? Watering the tray seems to attract mosquitoes, which eggs may end up in the juice.
Thanks Re: wheat grass tray becaming a nest for mosquitoes

Date: February 29, 2012 02:41PM Mosquito sting you and draw your blood, fruit flies don't. Maybe look up some pictures on the internet and then tell us what it is that you've got.

Date: February 29, 2012 06:32PM I think they are flying nats? I have indoor plants and now they moved to the wheat grass tray. I know if I don't do anything soon, they'll proliferate.
Could I put the wheat grass tray inside the refrigerator? Would it survive 7 days? Re: wheat grass tray becaming a nest for mosquitoes

Date: March 01, 2012 02:00AM The fruit flies are eating the mold in your wheatgrass; in other words, they're protecting it and doing more good than bad.
Dont water your wheatgrass too much because this will create extra mold. Re: wheat grass tray becaming a nest for mosquitoes

Date: March 01, 2012 02:13AM The little flies are a common problem so don't get dicouraged. I don't know what to do about it though. Like Duke said water less, but you can use something in the water to prevent this. I herd of people using G.S.E. or maybe ozonated water. I can't tell you how much GSE to use though. You just put a few drops in a jug of water, I forget how many though. Make sure you rinse the seeds well before soaking. Re: wheat grass tray becaming a nest for mosquitoes

What is GSE? government-sponsored enterprise (GSE) Grapefruit Seed Extract A strong fan did not did much. These bugs can take any fan. I just made a juice and had to kill ~10. They are also starting to nest on other new trays. So, I need a plan B! Would I kill the health if I freeze the juice (or grass)? Whats better, freezing juice or grass? I washed the grass like crazy but these bug may glue the eggs to the stems Re: wheat grass tray becaming a nest for mosquitoes

Are you sure your seed stock wasn't infested with insect eggs? Re: wheat grass tray becaming a nest for mosquitoes

Date: March 18, 2012 07:06PM thanks. I believ they come from the air. I had similar experiences on the summer with indoor plants. I may purchase some elastic nets.
In the new tray I saw a bug when I was sparying it with water. Instead of flying away, it went unders the seeds. The moisture of the soil/seeds makes a perfect breeding ground. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
