I think POW is the most demoralizing thing ever. And I included war in my considerations.

Well I do. That obnoxious video is a tribute to the Human Body...showing how much abuse it can take. Go as far the other way, and become a God......WY
P.S. I have a local Wal-Mart. I hate the store, but find myself going there quite often.

ive gone out looking less then steller to the local market, hope nobody toook some secret shots of me

this vid is funny, sad, gross, disheartening, obnoxious, hysterical, ludicrous, and a complete waste of 5 minutes all wrapped up in one

It just shows how ill and out of touch our society has become. Providing the means by which people are able to reach such a state of health. physically, mentally and spiritually. I see much more than what's immediately apparent, such as the socialisation of people since infancy. And I wonder what has happened in a person's life that has resulted in feelings of low self worth, where self presentation is no longer of any importance to them. Or perhaps it's a deliberate expression of what they see in society in order to shock or to make a statement.

This vid also shows the darker side of human nature, where people are exploited, ridiculed, laughed at and made fun of, all without their knowledge, let alone their informed consent. It makes me angry.....

I've been there many times but not recently. The parking lot and the seagulls are a little depressing. Then there are usually fast food chains in somewhere in the lot. There are pieces of chicken boxes dumped, carts abandoned, etc.

I have an intense dislike for the place and anything else that Sam Walton was associated with (Sam's Club, Walgreens). At least for food (they carry produce now), I have convinced my wife who loves the place that we can get it cheaper and healthier from the farmer's market and our local ethnic market or BJs (like a Costco).

They have evolved into Supermarts where I live and are open 24/7 which makes going there sometimes inevitable for our family. Still, I try avoid them as much as possible.

Yes, "low-class" surroundings and behavior. What social class did you grow up in? I haven't watched it yet (if ever I plan to) but what puts me off is the "people" part of it. Those "people" are not defined by their bodies, their choice of store, etc. They are Spirit-Soul; as much worthwhile as you might feel about yourself. I was in Hipsterville yesterday and I was as much repelled by those "people" as with the ilk that shops at Wal-Mart (which sometimes included ME eye rolling smiley)

I agree with Banana Who and Jodi but further admit to having hate issues with red-necks, their urban, ghetto dwelling parallels, and of course yuppies, the nouveau-riche, the 1%, the Illuminati, frat-boys, sports fans, hipsters, and any and all species of dumbass who has no clue and resultantly ruins life for the rest of us.

Nonetheless, this thread appears to come from the Durianrider (primo dumbass) school of Rupert Murdoch inspired raw foods journalism. Not cool.

Where's Prana on this one?

You are commenting on the screening of the thread. Did you report it?

You commented that the thread came from Harley or a surrogate. How do you know that?

It's not the people, it's the behavior. The behavior of self-abuse, the behavior of making-fun (though I'm assuming the motivation of the people who compile these things). It's sickening and sad and a reminder of WHY we may choose to follow a healthy path that others find as out of place and extreme as some of those images.

I'm just being honest about my struggle. It's hard to like everyone. You don't just one day flip a switch and boom, unconditional love for everyone. If it were only that easy. Truth is it's not easy at all. I enjoy being honest about not being enlightened. I feel like I get closer to it every time I admit that I'm not. Of course, some are easier to love than others.

seagulls are there because the lakes and seas don't have enough fish any more.

Rab, are you sure about that? In Chicago I still believe there are fish in Lake Michigan but you will see seagulls in shopping centers because they got acclimated to living all over (from what I can tell). They are like vultures and will take fast food tidbits and scoop them up. Like pigeons, but even more adaptable to that sort of food.

I grew up in Chicago on Pine Grove Ave. on the North Side. Definitely many seagulls around the lake. I also have a home on Lake Michigan at the Indiana-Michigan border. Hordes of alewives still wash up every spring.

So you're a Lincoln Park guy, or is that Lakeview? Yes, I think it was once considered a novelty to even see seagulls at lakes in the first place! It certainly hasn't always been like this. I think it started in the '90s.

About the video, I am still wondering if there are really people like that who go to the store. Sometimes you see plumber's crack but this is really ridiculous. I don't think it's really mean, though. You can't seriously walk around with those get-ups and not expect some of us to crack up.

I always considered it Lincoln Park. We lived at 2800 N. Pine Grove on the corner of Diversey. It's an historic building called The Brewster. I don't know how well you know that area, but I got into produce working in the produce dept. at the Market Place right next to what used to be Granny's restaurant. Perhaps this is TMI, but I had my first, ahem, experience with an older woman (she was a yoga instructor in her 20s I was in high school) who seduced me while I was working there. She asked me if we had any pomegranates on my first day. Being ignorant of anything outside of the absolute basics, I said, "What's a pomegranate?" She replied, "Oh they're very sensual. You must try one." The rest is history. I've been intrigued by fruits and veg ever since. smiling smiley

I am sure that human garbage is not their preferable food. That means that all other natural sources are scarce. Seagulls can feed from different food sources but they are all - natural. WalMart is not a good source of food for anyone, including Seagulls.
Wikipedia: "Gulls are highly adaptable feeders that opportunistically take a wide range of prey. The food taken by gulls includes fish and marine and freshwater invertebrates, both alive and already dead, terrestrial arthropods and invertebrates such as insects and earthworms, rodents, eggs, carrion, offal, reptiles, amphibians, plant items such as seeds and fruit, human refuse, and even other birds."

Wiki also:
"Gulls—the larger species in particular—are resourceful, inquisitive and intelligent[5] birds, demonstrating complex methods of communication and a highly developed social structure. For example, many gull colonies display mobbing behaviour, attacking and harassing would-be predators and other intruders.[6] Certain species (e.g. the Herring Gull) have exhibited tool use behaviour, using pieces of bread as bait with which to catch goldfish, for example.[7] Many species of gull have learned to coexist successfully with humans and have thrived in human habitats.[8] Others rely on kleptoparasitism to get their food. Gulls have been observed preying on live whales, landing on the whale as it surfaces to peck out pieces of flesh.[9]"

...but I think that 'addapted to living with humans' used to be on the shore, eating leftovers from fishermen. Now that has changed...not for the better.

I feel like I generated some negative karma by watching that.

I wish people were more in touch with their bodies. I hope some of those people figure it out. There is nothing like knowing what a moment of optimal health REALLY feels like, until you have the experience.

I grew up on Wal Mart, (barely) raised by mom who worked three jobs and fed us nothing but fast food and TV dinners. Some nights I had to eat cold Easy Mac.

My mom is still in that cycle of self-destruction. Nothing about that situation is healthy. Whatever situations landed these people morbidly obese and standing at a check-out counter in Wal Mart... There are multiple layers of problems happening at once. Much of Wal Mart does cater to these problems.

I don't know. It gives me a lot of bad feelings. I'm not sure how to articulate them.

In other news, my best friend works at Wal Mart. I must discuss these videos with him promptly. I will ask him to determine their validity. And I know HE will have a laugh... Oh my.

My first reaction was to recoil at being assaulted with the images and music.

Then I thought about the people in it. Those aren't just images - - the photos represent real people, many of whom are out of touch with their genuine selves. They may be suffering and in pain or just be painfully unaware. Maybe they have been so beaten up by life that they have given up and quit caring. Somehow they do not have the inner strength, personal resources or needed support to take better care of themselves. Whatever the case, there is a life story behind each person and the infinite number of factors that brought them to the point of their photo.

Then I thought how the music and montage of quickly changing images sets the viewer up to laugh at the people, gawk, dismiss them as asking for it by wearing such get-ups, criticize them for letting themselves go so far, etc. People with low self-esteem somehow feel superior when they engage in a point and giggle, "look-at-those-stupid-slobs-I am-so-much-better-than-that" dynamic, but the reality is that this video dehumanizes people and sets viewers up to participate in that.

First of all, I didn't have the music on so I have no idea what the effect is with it! Come on, guys! I would never snicker at overweight people in and of themselves. I am wondering if this is real. I have NEVER seen such crazy outfits when I have gone to Wal-Mart! This could easily be fake. Yes, sometimes you have a plus-size human in something too small but that's not so funny. It's the get-ups.

Why should it upset you, Coco? Last week I was riding the bus and an older woman got on wearing a hat with bunny ears. She was also acting a bit erratic. It brought a smile to my face. Even if someone is obviously eccentric or downright nuts, it's part of the crazyquilt called life and makes it what it is. If everyone on the street was "sensible" and "sober," it'd be a pretty dull world.
