Awww, nuts!

I'm curious.

Do you eat nuts?

What kinds?

How much? How often?

Are you going for specific nutrients? Or do you just like them?

If you avoid them is it because of calories or what?

Nuts are seeds, I eat pumpkin and sunflower seeds for protein, zinc, and other nutrients.

I eat raw, unsalted almonds and hemp and sunflower seeds. My diet is healthy, my skin is glowing, all my vitals are excellent, sex-drive is high, so on and so forth...No need to get all bothered over enjoying some of that stuff. I think that I've been doing this health thing long enough that my cravings are dictated by what my body needs.

I try to get a nice serving of brazils in at least once a week, for the selenium. Selenium is SO important for brain function and synergizes with melatonin.

Also, zinc. Pumpkin seeds in the salads. Not a lot, just enough to always keep some amount floating around in my diet.

Nuts and seeds are awesome sources of minerals. They get a lot of bad rap with the 8-1-1 crowd, but I think adding them modestly and intelligently really does the body good.

If I'm having nuts, I also almost always try to ferment them. They digest much better, and who doesn't love some extra probiotics? smiling smiley *raw pizza cheese dance*

Sunflower, pumpkin, sesame, poppy, chia, flax, hemp seeds.
Walnuts, pecans, brazil nuts, almonds, cashews, etc.

Small quantities regularly, on their own or in recipes. For calories, protein, minerals, fats, and taste.

Does anyone crack their own nuts? I feel that would be fresher, cheaper and more delicious.

We do sometime, that's ok for snacking but not so much for recipes, lol. No way I'm cracking a cup of nuts before I make a whole dish of something, that would take forever!

When I was young we often had mixed nuts on our coffee table with a cracker. I don't see them in packs like that now.

As a comment on freshness, I recently I got some shelled almonds that were the freshest I've ever had. They were moist and very tasty.

Fresh pecans taste sweet to me.

It's frustrating to get rancid nuts.
