It's not about what he's eating, it's about his state of mind. A different person with the exact same diet could be having the opposite experience. Sounds like he's got some junk in the attic to clear out so he can find some joy in life.

yes, but it's also about the continued myth that we should be eating things that don't taste good and that they are healthier.

Without a link I can't say What I think the article was about.
To me it sounds like a person who is not capable of enjoying their life.
As I said, another person with the same experience could find it quite joyful.
I personally don't have a huge investment in eating things that are overwhelmingly "tasty", I like mild and even bland or odd flavours as I find them interesting and often enjoyable. Can't say my uncle the fast-food junky would find foraging weeds on the green path to his liking but then again, his lunch would not appeal to me in return.
This is a very subjective thing.
How about a link?

Well.maybe the message is that a person needs to find joy in life away from food.
Food is and always will be for the purpose of keeping us alive.

Socrates would agree, "The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance... Bad men live to eat and drink; whereas good men eat and drink to live."

Peace and Love..........John
