Anyone on board with Dr. Robert Young?

I've just now heard of him, but apparently he's been around for many years. He promotes an alkaline diet, cutting out a lot of acidic foods and sugars, high sugar content fruits and the like.

I listened to him on the Coast to Coast AM show, and he does make a compelling case. He also promotes using a lot of the "right" salt and ingesting the "right" kind of sodium bicarbonate, and drinking high ph water.

Anyone here heard of him? What do you guys think of him & a high alkaline diet such as this?

I'm checking out his website and it's interesting. I like this chart -

So dried fruit and mushrooms are very acidic. Who know.

His products look good --

I wonder if the powders are raw or freeze-dried. And the shampoo has hydrolized protein in it (that's MSG) and gluten in the wheat ingredient, but the salt and other stuff I like - the lung support, adrenal support (powerlifer would approve), etc. I wonder if the L-Argenine is natural or synthetic.

I was into the acid/alkaline balance years ago and used to check my saliva with those strips all the time. I would think if we were all raw vegan, we'd be pretty alkaline.

I like what he has to say...I'm not sure if I can give up some of the "bad" stuff though.

I love Oranges & Bananas & other sweet fruits, which are off the list. He also says to cut gluten which makes sense. A lot of folks have trouble with that one.

"Dried fruit and mushrooms are very acidic. Who know."

I didn't know about the mushrooms, but dried fruit makes sense, as the sugar content is very concentrated in dehydrated/dried fruits.

"What is the right kind of "Sodium Bicarbonate"?"

Food grade, without Aluminum & other metals. I believe he sells it on his site, and there are other sources of it too.

@ Kidraw - I like that chart too. I'm the kind of person that likes things laid out in an a structured fashion like that. I think if I were to post that on the fridge the rest of the family may roll their eyes though.

Sadly, not all in the household are riding the same raw, healthy express that I am. sad smiley

But we may get there someday! smiling smiley

I heard him talk on Kevin Giani's great health debate in 2011. He contradicted himself several times when he was talking about macronutrients. This lead me to question if he really knows what he's talking about at all. I haven't read his book so I guess it's not fair for me to overjudge, but why would someone eat baking soda?

Maybe he was nervous at the health debate, lol. I'll have to do a bit more research on him. There's a good bit of youtube vids featuring him. I think it's fair to say that overall what he is promoting (an alkaline body) is a good thing.

One thing that is bothersome though, is a diet/lifestyle that seems to be so restrictive to many of the foods that are available to us on this planet. It seems "off" to me that these foods are here, yet we cannot eat them.

Kind of like the forbidden fruit in Genesis...
