Peppers and NIghtshade Veg
Posted by: michelemm ()

Recently a friend of mine mentioned that I maybe I feel so bloated and joint issues is because I am eating too many nightshade vegetables. Well, the only ones I eat are red, yellow and orange peppers. Sometinge, I will eat 2 of each a day.

Does anyone know if they are toxic, should I cut them out or are the benefits better than the harm? I am trying to find other vegetables that I like to help me stay raw.

Thank you

Hi Michelemm.

The bloated part is most probably due to weak stomach acid juice. Whatever food is not fully digested, it then becomes food for the flora. It improves with time. But I would suggest fully chewing your food (into small pieces).

The joint issue could be due to natural defensive toxins of some plants like oxalate or solanin. Oxalates are big on potatoes, tomatoes, spinach, etc. They create crystals in the body when combined with calcium. They can create multiple symptoms like joint pain, headaches, etc. The same applies with solanin (night shades). Some people are more tolerant than others. If you think you got problems with these, then reduce their intake and you should see a gradual improvement in like two or three days. Only eat red color peppers. The other colors are the same thing but not rippened fully.

Google for low oxale diet or nightshade

Ok, great. Thank you. I am eliminating peppers this week to see how I feel. My issue is I need more veggies that are lower carb... at least in the beginning. My body does not do well on higher carb and then I end up going back to fishsad smiley so this time I am tryijng to stick with a low carb vegan, raw diet.

what about olive oil?

It is my belief that this is due to the adrenal glands. They produce the hormones needed to properly metabolize carbs. I would maybe try herbs to improve the adrenals and maybe the pancreas. Lots of sleep. But eating healthy could be enough.

it is OK in moderation. I have a coworker that bragged about the benefits of olive oil but then he looked like a sack of potatoes. You won't miss anything from olive oil but if it helps you to make better salads then it is good.

If I were to buy a book about raw food, it would be this one:

it does talk about the adrenals-sugar metabolism

the whole trick to health is in the glands. Glands create hormones. Hormones control the body (not the left brain). Many people chose diets based on the condition of their glands without pondering the idea if their glands are what they should be. Sometimes the condition of the glands are passed down from earlier generations. But this condition can be 'repaired' with healthy raw foods (detox - energizing - regenerating) and patience. Then the better conditions of the glands can be passed down to the following generations.

Gotcha. I have to get my adrenal glands up and working. I hear broccoli wasnt good either...ugh! Now, I am starting to feel like my favorite veggies are dwindling down.

Any thoughts?

broccoli is OK. I get it frozen-organic already cut in pieces and then I put it in warm water for the salads (only half a cup). It actually tastes good. If I get it fresh (not frozen) and I cut it, then small pieces fall and it is a mess. And it does not taste good. And makes me sleepy. Frozen organic works for me and I find it more practical (small portions) with no negative side effects.
