"The thermic effect of food, called dietary thermogenesis, or postprandial thermogenesis, is the process of energy production in the body, caused by the metabolizing of food. Whenever food is eaten, the pancreas releases insulin into the bloodstream to push nutrients such as sugar and protein from the bloodstream into the cells. In that process, the metabolic rate dramatically rises. Inside the cell, these natural sugars are building glycogen. This causes the cells to release calories in the form of heat. Carbohydrate rich foods create a higher thermic effect because they have more sugar for glycogen production. This means any excess carbohydrates consumed are not stored as fat, but rather, burned off in the form of body heat. It is physically impossible to become overweight by consuming excess carbohydrates, no matter the amount " Turn Off The Fat Genes by Dr. Neal Barnard teaches about dietary thermogenesis, or more simply, the 'thermic effect of food.' life vs lifelessness Re: Postprandial Thermogenesis - 'The Thermic Effect of Food'

This is True, but it’s NOT 100% - see below. <<<This means any excess carbohydrates consumed are not stored as fat, but rather, burned off in the form of body heat. It is physically impossible to become overweight by consuming excess carbohydrates, no matter the amount>>> This is Not True. If this was True and we ate a Low Fat Diet, we would eventually run out of Fat because 50% to 60% of the Calories we burn at rest are Fat. The Thermogenic Effect aka de Nuvo Lipogenesis is different for Fat and Carbohydrates. The Body will convert Fat much easier to Fat (3-4% energy cost, so 96% to 97% of Fat Consumption is converted into Body Fat) then Carbohydrates (up to 30% energy cost, so ~70% of Excess Carbohydrate Consumption is converted into Body Fat). Once again, if 100% of the Excess Carbohydrates were used for de Nuvo Lipogenesis or the Thermogenic Effect and we ate a Low Fat Diet, we would eventually run out of Fat.
