How long can unopened pineapples sit at room temperature before going bad? What kind of "shelf life" do they have? I have an opportunity to buy them in quantity. Thanks for the help.

Are you talking about raw pineapples or canned pineapples.
Canned ones are totally unhealthy you can just put them in the garbage.

I'm talking about whole pineapples. Why would I be talking about canned pineapples on a raw board? I just want to know how long pineapples will keep without either drying up or rotting.

Do an experiment for yourself and find out. I would just dehydrate or freeze the rest. I would not buy large quantities of any fruit (except maybe apples) because their time is limited. But in any case, don't you think it varies from fruit to fruit? I have had cukes that lasted much longer than others. No way to know why that happens.

How many of these pineapples have you already eaten? Are they perfectly ripe? Why not buy 1 or 2 and eat them and see how your lips, tongue, mouth, teeth and body react. Eating bulk acidy pineapples isn't like eating sweet fruit like bananas or mangoes, or are you aware of this already?

It is hard to say because I don't know what state the are starting in. Pineapples generally don't last a week in my house before I 'need' to cut them open. But I buy them as close to opening as I can usually. I believe you probably shouldnt purchase mre than you could consume in a week or they might go bad before you could enjoy them. (this is of course based on my personal history with the fruit. Others may gave different ideas. ) good luck! smiling smiley

You could also juice the rest and freeze the juice (if you have a juicer, that is).
