Organic v's conventional greens (a quick note), + affording organic fresh greens
Date: September 20, 2013 02:21PM

Buying seed in bulk allows me to be able to afford FRESH organic greens for much cheaper than expensive non fresh organic store bought produce. And it allows people who can't afford store bought organic to be able to purchase it if they grow greens themselves.

If you read the science on organic v's non organic you quickly will realise that eating large amount of non organic greens is a big problem because the chemical fertilizers and pesticides contribute to higher levels of anti nutritional factors such as saponins, tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids, trypsin (protease)
inhibitors, oxalates, phytates, haemagluttinins (lectins), cyanogenic glycosides, cardiac glycosides, coumarins, gossypol and many other things. (Please note: all these anti nutrients are not all in greens, but it does demonstrate the ample problems associated with non organic vegan foods). We can't just shrug our shoulders and ignore the facts...we need to take positive action if we wish to utilise our food to the most effcient levels possible. Even green juices are not neccessarily utilised as well as they could be by the body.

And scientists now know that higher levels of anti nutrients can cause "decreased efficiency in converting the absorbed nutrients to new body substances".

And if you read Dr Brian Clement's brilliant book `Food is Medicine - the scientific evidence' and read all the science references listed in chapter 5 on organic v's inorganic, you will quickly realise how important organic food really is.

And some researchers have even stated that the electrical frequency of organic food is far higher than non organic when looking at Kirlian photography.

So considering, with organic, you generally get higher nutrition levels, better utilisation of nutrients via lower levels of anti nutrients, less chemical toxins and reported higher electrical frequency, it does make sense to sprout your greens whenever possible and save money and utilise the nutrition in the food much better.

Also: it is looking more and more like the softer fibers in baby greens (sprouts) are also more beneficial for many reasons over the older plant fibers of vegetables. Softer fibers can possibly mean better absorption of nutrients and, less ability to irritate the lining of the stomach and intestines in some people who eat large amounts of greens. It would be worth getting back to the fiber science another day because it is a very complex and interesting subject, but it does appear to have a bearing on nutrition absorption levels....maybe much more important than we have been led to believe.

Because no person should have to be a millionaire to be able to eat raw organic vegan.

I can't see how sprouts can replace greens or food grown in soil. The months that the greens spend in the soil and the sun provide the nutrients we need, whereas sprouts are just grown with water. Having said that, humans can live long healthy lives irrespective of what they eat as long as it's relatively healthy food, so we shouldn't micromanage our eating to the point of absurdity.

The seed of the sprouts had many months developing on the plant, so yes they had the benefit of soil too. The sprouting process is only 1 - 8 days without soil, but the benefits of the baby greens far outway the benefits of mature greens for many many reason l won't go into at the moment.

Getting back to growing food without soil....The power is in the seed, and when you sprout it the power of the seed is said to be spent within the first 7 days before the plant needs soil. So sprouts needing soil in those first 7 days is not neccessary according to experienced horticulturists, so the argument that some "sprouts are just grown with water" isn't so valid as many people think it is.

Here is something interesting to think about (a basic thought):
1 seed = 1 vegetable.

So a vegetable sald might make up a total of 4 or 5 seeds (correct me if l am wrong on this)
A sprout salad uses up to thousands of seeds.

I could go on and on about why sprouting is by far the optimal choice of food, but l won't. winking smiley
