Date: September 09, 2013 10:33PM It's a really dumbed down article. All it talks about is sugar and ignores the fact that soft drinks have additional nasty factors in them.
I always laugh when people are referred to as experts. I wonder what Barry Popkin is expert in...disinformation perhaps?...or maybe making dumbed down conclusions. Do experts know it all? Well, after reading the article l am lead to believe they don't know much at all. The use of the word "expert" is a highly dubious word. Love the new handle, by the way The fiber is still there so it slows down the impact of the sugar entering the system. What a smear job. Date: September 21, 2013 11:56PM I actually agree with what the study found. He wasn't talking about people who have an interest in health like we do. He was directing it at the mainstream of society. He wasn't referring to people who might make a smoothie at home with 2 or 3 bananas or 2 or 3 mangoes and add water, or might put fresh fruit in and add water, greens, parsley or celery. He was giving a warning to mainstream people who are going to the health bars that have sprung up, offering their version of fruit smoothies as being a '' healthy alternative ''.
Their healthy version of a smoothie looks like this - either 1 fresh banana, or a handful of frozen strawberries or other frozen berries, and the rest of the smoothie would consist of ice cream or frozen '' low fat yoghurt '' ( which would have 6 teaspoons of sugar ) plus lots of sugary ' fruit ' syrup or fruit juice concentrate with water added as a filler, so all you would be getting is a small piece of fruit, and the rest would be sugary junk under the guise of a fruit smoothie. These people would actually be better off buying a banana and an apple for lunch, plus a bottle of water. It would be healthier, and cheaper.
