When John Kohler was in college, severe headaches and pain necessitated an emergency room visit where he endured a painful spinal tap and was diagnosed with spinal meningitis. Doctors delivered the disheartening news that he might not make it out of the hospital alive and attributed his infection to a weak immune system.

Spinal meningitis is caused either by a viral or bacterial infection that leads to severe swelling in the spinal cord and, ultimately, the brain. My almost 50-year old nephew contracted spinal meningitis as a child, was hospitalized for almost a month in a hospital isolation ward, almost died, but thankfully completely recovered...though some recoverees have lingering lifetime effects. During the majority of that hospitalization time, his parents could only see him through a window.

As to the veracity of the Jay Kordich bladder cancer cure, sorry I have my doubts. Although several websites tell this story (Wikipedia only says "claims", I noted a few years ago that the Kordich site itself, in telling his life story, no longer said bladder cancer, but only recovery from a serious (but not specifically mentioned) illness. At the time I was somewhat surprised at that, so today I rechecked his website to get the exact wording, but see that his "bio blog" (born in southern Cal, son of a fisherman) no longer seems to exist. Interesting.
