Eating lots of fruit isn't good and can cause serious problems in the long run. When you eat too much sugar, regardless of where it's coming from, you will suffer from hyper insulin. I'm speaking in terms of people who are Fruitarians or close to. Your sugar to minerals balance will be out of whack. Fruitarians, over the long-run, typically end up with a lot of problems. That doesn't mean fruit isn't healthy, a lot of people overdo it though and it can cause a variety of health issues.

It's not my theory, it's knowledgeable advice from Dr. Fred Bisci. Long-term fruitarians typically run into problems.

Interestingly enough, the fruto-oligosaccharides (runaway sugars) have been clearly demonstrated to ferment in the intestines and create good bacteria which is shown to improve mineral absorption. It might not be as bad as Dr David Jubb makes it out to be. Still, the old problem of deficient Xyloglucan endotransglycosylase activity when fruit is store bought still remains and always will be.

l'll start a topic on prebiotics and probiotics another day because it is important to talk about this subject.

How often do you take probiotics?

Take them with each meal. Why? Because they have been shown to break down tannins and phytic acid. BUT, it looks like it goes further than that, much much further because it looks like they can also break down menacing runaway sugars like Raffinose and rogue proteins like Gluten and other things. And yes, these pre-biotics and pro-biotics do increase calcium, zinc, magnesium aborption etc, + they seem to break down fiber. l'll get back to this life changing topic another day.

I had some unripe fruit this morning high in tannins and it made me feel tired. Were not impressed.

Couldn't you use enzymes for that as well? Do probiotics combine with anything?

Durianrider is a fool and only tarnishes the reputation of the raw food diet/movement. Maybe he should go eat some more mountains of refined sugar on top of GMO cereal.

Digestive enzymes only break down things like phytic acids, starches, proteins, fats, and a few other things, but they won't break down tannins, oxalic acid and other nasties. Unfortunately we need them both.

Still, sprouted seeds on their own aren't too bad with digestion, but having nuts, legumes and grains is a different story. Still, we should have chlorella or an algae with many of these foods because they are very high in copper, and we need to increase zinc levels so it is absorbed better (prevent copper toxicity like Dr Wilson mentions).

And there is always the big question...does the drying of algaes remove the tannins...looks like it can, but we can't be 100% certain. But, if we have the algaes with probiotics it looks like we will be in the clear and it will improve the raw food diet and bring a better balance.

This is interesting stuff.

sproutarian

if u ferment a lot of your foods

wouldn't that mean u don't have to take a probiotic

or are you just taking them in order to attain more of something good

cuz it may not easy to get all the different strains from fermenting?

Thanks for sharing the info.
Things that are extreme always turn out not to be right.

Yes, extreme is no good. My diet was extreme for a while and it did slightly worry me in the back of my mind, but l never could pinpoint any major problems (l searched for problems with an open mind) and wanted to discuss the idea with knowledgable people to make sure it was o.k. Lucky l did, and my intuition served me well.

l eat from the nut family, grain family, algae family, seaweed family, weed family, flower family, legume family, seed family etc. l don't overdo any of the things in my diet..all in moderation. Not too much distilled water or U.T either. Not too much algae or green juices...all within reason.

Eating 3000 calories+ on a raw vegan diet is extreme. winking smiley As Hilton Hotema once said, "chain smokers and alcoholics have been known to live over 100 years of age, but gluttons, never". I know people will say that most gluttons don't eat as healthy as we do, but we'll see where the raw 3,000 calorie folks end up, time will tell.

Moderation is the key. Digestion takes too much energy from the body so eating nutrients packed food but less is a win.
LUIGI CORNARO LIVED 102 YEARS on a minimal diet of twelve ounces a day. [drbass.com]
Most of us are constantly eating especially during the holidays, jars of nuts, candies, basket of fruits, juices,.... and the list goes on. All of these is before or after the real meal.
