For the more active vegans/raws...

I'm sure this topic has been brought up before. I did a few searches but didn't find exactly the answers I was looking for. I will be practicing Bikram yoga soon, a practice that can burn 450-900 calories a session, depending (so I've read). I'm sure some of you are active enough that you burn even more than this each day. How do you supply the calories, without hitting higher fat content sources, which would disturb a healthy carb/protein/fat balance? If you could enlighten me as much as possible on this...I'm clearly missing something...

Why do you think you are missing something? It takes about 10 or 15 minutes to eat several hundred calories' worth of bananas.

I am VERY active physically. I've only been raw for 2.5 weeks now, but my energy level has actually gone up, which I really didn't expect, since I was already pretty high energy. I am eating lots of veggies by juicing them (and add a couple of fruits for flavor) and then eat my fruits in their natural form. If I am going to do something that will be a really tough workout, I eat fruit about 30 minutes before the workout. Haven't had a problem yet. Its been great. I have cut back significantly on nuts and seeds after reading many posts on the boards about making sure I wasn't consuming too much fat.

you should check out Tonya Zavasta's book Quantum Eating or look at her website, she does Bikram Yoga every day and advocates a low-calorie raw diet.

Tonya Zavasta practices calorie restriction, yet she sometimes does 2 90-minute sessions of Bikram yoga a day. If you've been raw for awhile and are relatively cleaned out and healthy, it is a myth that you have to take in huge amounts of calories. However, if you're still in transition you might feel the need to get more calories while your body cleans itself out and acquires more ability to assimilate nutrients.

I do Bikram myself. I don't think you need to eat additional food. The big thing for me is electrolyte replacement. I bring coconut water with me to drink after each class, because you will sweat buckets.
