low iron

I have given blood about a dozen times, several of which since going raw 1.5 years ago. However, I went to donate yesterday and my iron was too low, 12.2 instead of the minimum 12.5

Has this happened to anyone else? What do I need to eat more of in order to raise my iron?

I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Here's an article that might be of help.

Thanks Deb. I'm not worried about being deficiant, I just want to be able to donate blood. Good link.

Just because your count is too low to give blood doesn't mean you are deficient.

What Eecho is saying repeatedly is that the concern is to be able to give blood so in that case being too low would mean being deficient ~~ too deficient to give blood.

Have you had any luck upping your count or is it too soon to tell?

No, I haven't gone back yet. Probably within the next few weeks. I'll post it here when I do.
