Dehydrators

Date: August 11, 2006 04:50PM I have searched this bulletin board for information on dehydrators and could find nothing. I'm new at this and not sure what to do. Most of the books I have with raw food recipes call for use of a dehydrator. And from what I have read the Excalibur is the best, but 4, 5 or 9 trays??? Right now my husband is not eating raw but a willing tryer of things so it's only me. Recipes that call for breads or pies etc the 4 tray does not look tall enough to put a loaf of bread in. Any suggestions would really be helpful.
Thanks Lane Re: Dehydrators

Date: August 11, 2006 11:02PM part of your decision might be based on how much stuff you plan on dehydrating at once and for how many people. if there is mainly one with a good possibility of another eating the dehydrated foods, maybe a 5-tray is a good starting point?
you can still make breads in a 4-tray as you don't need to use all trays at once. for instance, you could just put in 1 or 2 trays if the food you're dehydrating is too tall. currently, i'm just one, so i'm thinking about getting a 4-tray. Re: Dehydrators

Date: August 12, 2006 07:09AM I'm going to get the 9 tray one. They have the same footprint, just a little taller. Also, you can do more in the 9 tray than the smaller ones. You can remove shelves for taller items, too. The prices are not that far apart economically speaking. For my money, the 9 tray is the best bang for the buck. Therese Re: Dehydrators

Date: August 12, 2006 02:10PM We have two nine tray excaliburs, and find that when making things like flax crackers and buckwheat crusts and such it is as much work to make 9 trays worth as less, so we make enough to fill one or even both dehydrators and don't have to do it to often what one can do, all can do...
