Raw Foods Answer to Sugar

I have recently been diagnosed as pre-diabetic and my thyroid is a little high. I am looking at raw foods as a lifestyle in order to solve these issues and help insure my future health. Could someone steer me to reading material that addresses sweeteners -- honey, fructose, etc.? I am finding a great deal of conflict in what I am reading regarding this subject. I love honey and have used it for years, but I want a sweetener for my coffee (which at this point I plan to continue to consume) and honey is not really an option.

Thanks for the help!

I've used agave nectar (which is supposedly ok for diabetics) and also maple syrup and both taste fine to me.

The reason that any sweetner like honey, agave nectar, maple syrup, date sugar, etc, is going to be problematic is because there is no fiber to slow down the rapid entry of sugars into the bloodstream, which for a diabetic is dangerous.

Eating fresh ripe whole raw organic fruit, even those that are sweet, have soluble fibers in them, that slow down and regulate the entry of sugar into the bloodstream. Eating fresh fruit, in combination with a low fat or non fat raw diet will heal type 2 diabetes given the other elements of good health, which include plenty of rest and sleep, exercise, fresh air, sunshine, healthy loving relationships, etc.

learning,

Thanks for the link. That's truly an inspiring video that I wish were a bit longer but it still manages to get the message across.

Peace,

Well Basia, greenie, and David had good advise anyway.

I concur! Coconut milk/cream OR nut/seed milk (to slow sugar uptake/metabolism)

and as for sweetener maybe a little stevia or agave nectar?
