So heating destroys enzymes. Doesn't freezing affect foods, too? Why are frozen foods okay?

Frozen foods are affected also, though not as bad as cooked foods. In a freezer, esspecially a frost-free freezer, frozen foods can dehydrate. It is with this dehydration that foods lose their nutrients. Some foods, like durian, have enough fat in them that protects the cell walls from this kind of damage. Both freezing and cooking cause nutrients to get lost. However, cooking also introduces toxins into the food, which freezing does not. Freezing is more akin to eating older and less nutritious produce.

Most non-fatty foods are not really going to be that pleasant if you thaw them. Using frozen foods in smoothies and raw ice creams are the most enjoyable way to eat these frozen foods.

Also, I learned in a raw nutritional science course that frozen foods have an adverse affect on your digestive flora, as the cold is not an ideal climate for those organisms.

That all being said, the ideal way to eat fruits and vegetables are when they are whole and fresh. The fresher the food, the higher the nutrient content.

As Bryan said: It's a spectrum. Although I don't believe frozen foods are as fresh / vital / healthy as frest raw plant food......if it helps you on your journey....I say go for it! smiling smiley

I find frozen foods to be completely dead and lifeless. They react inside my body as if they're non-living foods. I agree that they're not 'as bad' as cooked foods, but they're a compromise, no question.

However, if it's 90 degrees outside, and you want to make a smoothie using frozen fruit to cool off, it's certainly not going to challenge your well being.

Best,
Mark
