Fibers in My Smoothie!

When I use my little Kitchen Aide to make a smoothie with khale, sprouts and fruit, I have a bunch of long fibers in it (about 1.5 inches) that are gross and gag me. Do the blend tec and vita prep cut these up smaller so it is more palatable?

In the meantime you may try removing the center "vein" from the leaves and tearing the kale into smaller bits. This works alright with my Black & Decker.

The K-tec mashes all that stuff up, too. It will blend anything.

You don't have to rush out and buy a powerful/ expensive blender to remedy your problem. I wouldn't discard the center rib, but I would remove it and then cross cut it into many small 1/4 inch pieces then back into the blender with the soft green leaf

Same thing with tough stringy celery in any blended recipe.

The one I haven't solved yet is certain Yellow Mangos like one Haitian variety I fell in love with last winter get fiberous later in their season. This fiber is very fine beige in color and sticks in your mouth and throat. No trick has worked so far that doesn't waste the inner part of the fruit. Anyone had this problem?

do most people blend the center stalk/rib/vein of greens such as kale when they are making a smoothie?

Thanks! I took out the midrib, and the smoothy was great! I don't have the time or patience for processing the midrib, but I will include it if i ever get a superblender. Has anyone else read Victoria Boutenko's "Green For Life" book. It's pretty persuasive about green smoothies. (Blended, not juiced.)
