Date: January 07, 2011 03:02AM I used to think they were high in pesticides but lately I seem to find info that says USA grapes are good, but grapes from South of the Border should be avoided due to pesticides. I've bought commercial USA grapes a few times lately and they sure taste good. Re: Are Commercial USA Grapes Safe?

Date: January 07, 2011 03:18AM They use a heavy amount of pesticides on both, I wash mine pretty thoroughly. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh, mirror in the sky What is love? Date: January 07, 2011 04:38PM The two most heavily sprayed fruits in California are strawberries and grapes - I wouldn't touch them.
Washing won't make any difference to a systemic spray although clearly washing will get surface dust and residues etc off. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/07/2011 04:40PM by flipperjan. Re: Are Commercial USA Grapes Safe?

Where are you hearing that US conventionally farmed grapes are safe? I have never ever heard this, though I have heard that those from Central and South America tend to be even more toxified. Re: Are Commercial USA Grapes Safe?

Date: January 07, 2011 06:41PM My grammy had grapes in her garden and they were always swarming with bees and bugs. Lots of pesticides used on commercial grapes. I have never seen organic grapes... now I want some! Re: Are Commercial USA Grapes Safe?

Date: January 07, 2011 10:49PM I don't know but offhand I'd say that commercial USA grapes are a low pesticide food, and I may just keep on eating them. Like I said, they taste quite good, and not noticeably better than organic grapes, so there may be little difference. Re: Are Commercial USA Grapes Safe?

Date: January 08, 2011 12:51PM Just make sure you wash them really well, in a white vinegar/water solution, to at least get surface pesticides off, Nick. Re: Are Commercial USA Grapes Safe?
