For those in Europe

I was wondering if raw tahini (ground sesame seeds) is available in (healthfood) stores in Europe.

Thank you!

i haven't come accross it. you have to make it yourself.
Grind seeds in a coffee grinder, add a little oil to make a paste.
Or put them through a greenstar juicer, if you have one.
tell us how you get on.

Where in Europe, it's a big place?!

It is available in many health food stores in Spain, they seem to understand the importance of raw tahini, with one brand even having a leaflet with it to explain how it was even more raw than other brands!

In England, it doesn't seem to be available in health shops.

Hi!
In Amsterdam I know of two places selling raw tahini: Delicious Foods on Westerstraat near Noordermarkt (where you can find the raw food stand of Raw Superfoods), and at Unlimited Health (www.unlimitedhealth.nl)
They also sell other raw nut/seed butters.

I am thinking of starting a small business selling raw tahini to European healthfood stores...

I was wondering about the price you guys pay for it... and whether you think there's a demand for it beyond the raw food movement...

Thanks a lot for your time!

rc

p.s. Rob, do you know the name the Spanish company selling the raw tahini?

rc - I've been living back in England for a year now and can't remember any of the brand names. I'll let you know if I can find any of them out.

Where are you based? If you are not in Europe, I think you would have a hard time. Raw Tahini is available over here (online in the UK) so it's not like you would be offering anything special, and there doesn't seem to be a big demand for it outside of the raw movement. You would need a distributor based in Europe as shipping from the states to individual health food shops would be too expensive.

rc, you asked about prices:
[www.detoxyourworld.com] - £13.49 for 454g
[www.fresh-network.com] - same product £12.99

[www.rawliving.co.uk] might also sell it but their website is down at the moment.

The raw tahini in health stores in Spain is a lot cheaper, because it's seen as normal to have raw tahini over there.

Feel free to contact me by email if you need any more specific help (rob@funkyraw.com). (I run an online raw shop.)

It's available here in the Netherlands.
I get it at the natuurwinkel (health food shop) in Delft, where I live.

You'd probably find it at any local ethnic market or store that sells food items from the Middle East.
