Thanks powerlifer,

I will check those out. Part of me wants to make a clean break and leave all sweets off the table for good; my thinking is if I give in to the temptation a little, I'll end up giving in a lot.

I've been looking at some yummy sounding youtube vids for raw treats. A lot of them use cacao & carob as you mentioned.

I believe the last time I tasted carob I didn't care for it though. Maybe I'll try again.

Does carob & cacao have minimal impact on blodd sugar levels?

I would go with carob as cacao contains stimulants such as caffeine and theobromine. Now whilst that can be ok for a healthy person it may not be ok for others. Cacao can impact blood sugar levels so i would give it a mess unless on occasion.

The carob orange brownie is yum and not high fat either. There raw crisps are great too and again not high in fat.

veganrawdude,

I would really try to eat more fruit to satisfy the sugar cravings, and magnesium-rich greens, as green smoothies. The more of your comments I read, the more I think you have a physiological craving for certain micronutrients rather than a psychological one. Bombing your system with the purest versions of the nutrients you are craving in their unhealthy forms will rid you of these attachments. So, for instance, maybe buy some raw chocolate, but don't replace the conventional chocolate with it ounce for ounce. Gradually increase your consumption of healthy magnesium-rich green veggies and raw fats and see if this combo doesn't decrease your craving for all chocolate bit by bit.

I would break the habit associated with feeling bad and eating boosters. It is self propelling and a close loop.

A one week water fast with plenty of rest should reset your eating habits

Also, call me crazy. But I would do colonics therapy. There is something with bacteria and mood. Bacteria cause cravings. Trust me.

I would dry fast two days a week.

Sorry to disagree guys but i would stay away from fasting if you have blood sugar issues like suggested in the original post.

Fasting can wreck havoc with blood sugar and could be potentially fatal for those with diabetes, hypoglycemia and even pre-diabetes etc.

It's hurtful to ask someone to be accurate and truthful in their words? Well, that's a new one for me!

eating chocolates and cakes can also wreck havoc with blood sugar

Thanks so much for all of the replies. At this point I am not "feeling" a fast. I have very little willpower to make it through that, so I'm not gonna set myself up for failure of that.

Nothing wrong with being accurate and truthful, but your "tact" sucks. I'm used to it though, I have family members like you who are very unsupportive and mean.

It's easy enough to throw stones from behind an anonymous keyboard. If you don't really have anything constructive for me as the others have, please refrain from posting in my thread.

Not necessarily if you choose the right ones, sure regular cakes and chocolate do but i haven't been recommending that anywhere.

Abit of carob, hazelnut brownie mixture isn't going to mess with blood sugar for most. Transitioning raw foods are usually pretty decent ingredient wise and are going to be better for his blood sugar than what he is currently eating. Certainly i am still of the opinion that anyone with blood sugar issues shouldn't fast but each to there own.

Wow, now you know me as well as a family member! yawning smiley

Unless we have violated the TOS, we are allowed to post in threads. If you think I have violated the Terms of Service by saying that eating nonvegan foods is not vegan, then please report it.
If you need help on what a vegan eats or doesn't eat, I'm sure we can help ya!

Edit: If calling someone the accurate term for their diet is "mean" and casting "stones" and you're taking offense, change yourself. I'm just being accurate. I didn't say you were a bad person for being non-vegan. YOU might have read into that. I'm not responsible for your emotional reactions and reading things incorrectly.

I'm just going to ignore the nonsense that's happening in here and say that I agree that fasting is not great for one with blood sugar issues, nor for one who is still developing the will power needed for such a pursuit. Take heart, you'll get there eventually smiling smiley. Slow and steady wins the race so aim for small steps that are easy for you to manage. If that means changing one small thing every day to your benefit, that's just fine! Do that, that's awesome. All those small steps add up to one successful journey.
