Does fruit ripen faster if left in the sun?

Date: May 14, 2012 04:38AM I thought that the reason for keeping unripe fruit and veg in a dark cool area was so that they would ripen evenly. Cause if placed on a window sil etc, they would ripen unevenly due to having only say one side exposed to the sun.
