Using the search function - your question may already be answered

Many of the questions we get on this forum are repeats of questions that have probably been answered many times already. The way you can see if your question has been answered is to use the Search function, by clicking the the "Search" link.

Here's is simple example

Type in the "Search Messages:" field: adrenal fatigue
Click the "Search" button

To find messages that contain adrenal but don't contain fatigue, use adrenal -fatigue.

If you didn't find the answer you were looking for, perhaps you can play with the various search options to expand your search. Here is an explanation of the search options.

Search Options

After the "Search Messages:" field is a pop-up that has the following values: "All Words", "Any Words", and "Exact phrase". Using the example given above, if you choose "All Words", a message would have to contain BOTH adrenal AND fatigue to match your search. If you choose "Any Words", a message would have to contain EITHER adrenal OR fatigue to match your search. If you choose "Exact phrase", a message would have to contain the exact phrase adrenal fatigue to match your search.

An example, searching for adrenal fatigue:
"All Words" returns 9 results
"Any Words" returns 36 results
"Exact phrase" returns 8 results
Searching for adrenal -fatigue returns 22 results

The "Search Author" field allows you to find messages that were written by a particular author. You need to use the exact user name of the author, as a partial name won't work.

Forum: is a list of forums to search. The first entry is "Search All Forums", which allows to you search every forum. Or alternatively you can click on just one forum, and choose that. You can also choose multiple forum by holding down the Control key on Windows, or the Command key on Macintosh, when you click on a forum name

In the Options: area, there is pop-up that has the following values: "Show results as threads" and "Show results as messages". If you choose "Show results as threads", when you click on one of the results, you will jump to the beginning of the thread that contains your search item. If you choose "Show results as messages", when you click on one of the results, you will jump to the actual message that contains your search item.

The 2nd pop-up contains the following values: "Last 30 Days", "Last 90 Days", "Last Year", "All Dates". This is a constraint on your search that limits how far back your search will go. By default, it is set to "Last 30 Days".

Troubleshooting

The most common problem is that the search only searches the "Last 30 Days". If you want to search the entire forum since the first post, use the "All Dates" option.

There is a limitation in the forum software where words with 3 or less letters are ignored. So if you want to search for RDA or DV, you can't.

Advanced

You can use Google to do your searches if you are unable to find things with the forum's search function. To the end of your search query in Google, add site:www.rawfoodsupport.com. For example, can can search for adrenal fatigue site:www.rawfoodsupport.com. Google doesn't have the 3 or less letter limitation found in the forum search. Also, Google does better with plurals, i.e. adrenal will match both "adrenal" and "adrenals" (with an 's'). Here is an explanation of Google's search operators or you can use Google's Advance Search Page.
