Any experiences with raw cocoa?
I really miss chocolate.
I eat mostly mono-fruit, but I was thinking that blending dates with cocoa would be delicious, maybe bananas too.

Blend some dates with walnuts and cacoa... yummy.

I used to miss chocolate a lot so I got some raw cacoa, I have to say (much to my supprize) I hardly use it, but when I do I really enjoy it. I'm careful not to eat it too late, otherwise I will have a hard time getting to sleep.

Also, eating plain raw cacoa beans, like coconutcream said, is also good. This is how I normally have it. Only if I'm making food to share will I incorperate the cacoa into a dish (like chocolate brownies, of almond butter filled cups, etc.).

Cheers,
Ian.

I do food combining, and mostly eat mono fresh fruit, so I think that eating dates+walnuts+cocoa would make me feel ill.

I'm not sure whether cocoa would make me sick or not, with or without dates and/or bananas.

I've heard that cocoa is not "hygenic," so to speak, and a stimulent that is not ideal for people. I've also heard the same about cayenne, and posted a similar thread asking about cayenne.

I'm hoping that people will share their knowledge about cocoa's health beneficial/detrimental effects, and so on.

mallow,

try blending the raw cacao with avocado in a food processor. Approx 1.5 heaped tablespoons per avocado. Suggest you put in 1 heaped tablespoon first and taste test. Keep adding and taste testing. (It sounds weird, but works and is so yummy).

You will also need to add some kind of sweet fruit that will blend smooth and combine with avocado (in order to sweeten it as the raw cacao is bitter). If you put enough cacao in you cannot taste the avocado and it tastes great.

I've not tried adding a sweet fruit to sweeten it as I used raw agave (as well as some vanilla).

Eat early as it can affect sleep.
Enjoy

I buy the raw chocolate bars from time to time, they are good and convenient. They are expensive though! but then just buying raw cocoa by itself seems expensive too. I wonder if you could grow it yourself?

Raw cacao beans taste good? I heard they're bitter.

Raw cocoa will taste bitter if you are used to dishes with refined sugars. I found them a little bitter/savory when I first tried them, now I don't find them bitter at all. I don't think they taste anything like coffee or tree bark either.

Why not try them and us know what you think?

Ian.
