Date: January 03, 2014 08:05PM The regular culinary herbs are very nutrient dense like basil, cilantro/coriander, mint etc, you don't even need much, a small handful can significantly increase the overall nutrition and health giving properties of a meal. Re: i LOVE basil!

Raw turmeric is wonderful but it will stain everything it touches and is very hard to get out of some things. There is also a white turmeric which is less flavorful but you don't have to worry about the staining aspect. You can plant turmeric and grow your own just like ginger. Re: i LOVE basil!

i saw this article on this website it says a lot of things about turmeric [www.whfoods.com] i like it because it tastes good sprinkle it on salads but i figure raw is better cuz less processed than the spices its supposed to be also a powerful antioxidant and anti inflammatory good for all sorts of healing and prevention figure its a little powerhouse there's something magical about it don't know why exactly other then that its a pharmacopeia of the highest order and it smells pretty good too Re: i LOVE basil!

------------------------------------------------------- > What makes raw turmeric wonderful It has that fragrant fresh pungent earthiness. Turmeric powder is pretty flat and boring on it's own and needs a lot of help much like ginger and galangal powders do. If you don't like turmeric, though, you will probably not be impressed. Better then to just take it in capsules for it's benifits I guess. Re: i LOVE basil!

I'm too lazy to spend an hour brushing my teeth to get that orange off which I fear I would have to do after drinking turmeric juice. I have a 'turmeric dedicated toothbrush' which will probably be orange for a thousand years as it is which is enough of a reminder for me. Woe to those with Formica counters who choose to juice turmeric! Re: i LOVE basil!

Hopefully you combine the turmeric with black pepper, otherwise you are poorly absorbing the curcumin, which has nearly all the health benefits of turmeric. The piperine in the black pepper significantly increases the bioavailability of the curcumin. Re: i LOVE basil!

why is curcumin taken singly curtailing its absorbability? what's in it that would do that? Re: i LOVE basil!

Date: January 03, 2014 11:15PM The active phytonutrient in turmeric called curcumin is unfortunately very poorly absorbed.
Black pepper like JTprindl says contains piperine which can increase the uptake and bioavailibility of many nutrients from selenium, coenzyme q10 to curcumin in turmeric. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 01/03/2014 11:17PM by powerlifter. Re: i LOVE basil!

Date: January 03, 2014 11:57PM Of course I combine my turmeric with black pepper! The best, the fully ripe organic stuff, tablespoons at a time, this...
[www.amazon.com] Right into the cauldron, my VitaMax, with the rest of my soup goodies, like four cloves of garlic, 10 grams of dulse, an avocado, etc., they go! Then drizzled with a few tablespoons of raw stone ground pumpkin seed oil. Exquisite medicine meals is how I do it and I only have to eat once a day. Re: i LOVE basil!
