raw kelp noodles

just curious
are raw kelp noodles really raw?
i tried them once or twice

it was mind boggling though wondering how on earth they get a green olive dark vegetable
strip it of all color
contort it into a noodle like strand
and it is somehow " raw"

what is the process of processing it to make it look like something unrecognizable?
i was always curious

i personally don't like the texture of it much
kind of tastes rubbery slinky weird

but it was fun anyhow
something different

just never understood what exactly it was that i was eating when it came to raw kelp noodles

what is in it?

what did they take out?

did they put anything in?

would love noodles that had better texture

i like the green and yellow zucchini to make spaghetti

i thas better texture

make with tomato basil sauce

I didn't like. Blech. I think I might have asked how they processed it to that point.

It had an aftertaste that was not nice. I decided not to buy ever again.

I think they are but it probably depends on the source. I'm about to try "sea spaghetti" in a couple of days, apparently all you have to do is soak them for 15 minutes and they resemble al dente pasta (except, you know, good for you). Has a nice little nutritional profile too.

I think it's because it's from irish moss seaweed, which is clear/yellowish in color.

but yeah, it doesn't digest easily.

I have only had this in two raw food restaurants and I loved it, but could only take it in small amounts before I felt nauseous. Its really gourmet, like eating something thats 300$ I thought the same thing, how that be raw, but irish moss, makes more sense. I thought, how do they make this, do they blend up seaweed and put it through a noodle maker.

I tried kelp noodles once too. It was fun at first but got too much after a while. Felt a bit artificial to me for some reason. Zucchini is great for noodles indeed. Just zucchini noodles with some lovely sauce makes a great and satisfying meal.

Raw kelp noodles have made me fell nauseous once, but I was eating a large meal of them. Zucchini works better for me too.

jtprindle, re the sea spaghetti, I'd try soaking it for longer than that, overnight even, then marinating in oil /lemon juice / spices, that way you'll have more chance of it tasting like pasta smiling smiley

If I made a sea kelp recipe I would screw it up. Sometimes I get grossed out when making recipes. You really have to make things many times to master it.

I have had some really good kelp noodle dishes.

This one was at a raw food festival

And this one was when I was pregnant with my first daughter, Pink Lady Apple came to stay with me and we went to Seattle and had this at Thrive

Like I said, TOOO MUCH. You have to start in small amounts or you get nauseous, I think maybe its the texture.
