The milkshake experiment…
In Alia Crum’s experiment with milkshakes, she wanted to know if the information that nutrition labels give out does influence physical changes in a person’s body. In this study, two types of milkshakes were labeled in different ways. One milkshake was labeled as 620 calories and another was labeled as 140 calories. The truth of the matter is that both milkshakes were, in fact, 380 calories. (4)

What Crum found out is that the satiety levels in people changed and matched to what was written on the labels than what was actually in the cup. Those who thought they were drinking a higher calorie milkshake experienced a quicker ghrelin decline and felt more satisfied. In contrast, those who thought they drank a lower calorie milkshake had an unchanged ghrelin response and felt less satisfied. (4)

As Crum states, “Labels are NOT just labels, they evoke a set of beliefs.” (4)

Your mind has a powerful effect on what you believe you just ate.
The researchers explained, “The effect of food consumption on ghrelin may be psychologically mediated, and mindset meaningfully affects physiological responses to food.” So, by believing what you’ve just eaten is satisfying, you could be reducing your hunger hormones. This can influence your metabolism to burn more calories! (2) Maybe this explains why people who eat diet foods tend to eat more of them and continue to struggle with their weight.

While our beliefs is a powerful factor in what drives us to eat certain foods, there are other reasons as well. A chronic lack of sleep can increase ghrelin, which can make us feel hungier when we don’t really need to eat. This is possibly one of the reasons why studies show that a lack of sleep can cause weight gain. (2)

Our brains have a powerful factor over what we believe! In fact, other studies show that we can train our brain to prefer healthy foods!

Words influence experiences. When I used to drink coffee way back them, there was a similar scenario. If people were told about the flavor beforehand with descriptive words (roasted hazelnut, balsamic rice, golden raisin, etc), then they could "find" the flavor on the cup. Whereas if you did not tell them anything, they could not easily come up with descriptions. It was like looking at the clouds to find figures you were told existed. So, there are internal dialogues going on that shape your experience somehow. What you learn on your past shape what you see. Seeking precedes finding sometimes.

HAHAHAHA RP

Anyways, I heard this before. I forget what show. But they pretend that food comes from healthy garden restaurants when really it is all the KFC sides made into a soup and they have people eat it and tell the scientists how they feel and they always say healthy, that was light, that was little calories. But when they are obvious about people eating fast food, they report it tasting like fast junk food and bad for you. But its just the green healthy restaurant marketing.
