Juice fast
Posted by: jtprindl ()
Date: October 31, 2014 11:31PM

I think I'm going to go on my first juice fast starting this upcoming Monday. All I'm going to consume is coconut water, pomegranate juice, sprout/grass juice, chlorella, AFA, and bee pollen. Have any tips or recommendations before I go into it? I figure algae's should help balance any potential (but unlikely) blood sugar issues while also binding to any toxins in the intestines so they aren't reabsorbed as well as providing all their nutritional benefits.

Hopefully, John, hopefully, I'm looking forward to it. I wouldn't have any complaints if it delivered those ape-like biceps either lol

You also might want to try and find lots of weeds and juice them very soon after picking them. Weed juice fasts are always good....easy to get over a gallon in per day.

Depending how long you fast for, you might want to end it with a nice gentle broom sweep of the intestines be eating some alfalfa or broccoli sprouts, wait a while and them eat a lot more of them.

Unfortunately even though there's a lot of weeds in my location (especially dandelion and purslane), they're all close to roads. Plus it's about to be winter so they're pretty much dead now anyways. It'd be nice to have access to a field of unpolluted weeds, could get so much juice, and for free.

Not sure how long I'm going to do it for but I do plan on making sprout salads in the future (buckwheat lettuce, broccoli sprouts, kale sprouts, etc). What is the most powerful bean sprout?

Are you able to find a farm or field nearby and ask the owners if they can let you pick weeds that have not been sprayed? Dandelion and thistles thrive in winter.

Lenil sprouts is a very nutritious legume sprout and my preferred one.

I might be able to, I'd have to do some searching, but I've never seen any dandelions in the winter where I live. Our winters get to below zero with wind chill much of the time and usually 2-3 months of consistent 10 F or lower.

Any specific variety of lentil?

Sproutarian always need to do searches, but good things can be found that will surprise. Searches and networking is the key to finding lots of golden jewels.

A small lentil is best imo. French green lentils.

Which of these would be closest to (or exactly) what you're referring to?

I'm going to cut it in half, squeeze all the seeds/pith into a bowl and then run it through a juicer. From my knowledge, the seeds are the most nutritious part of the fruit. Pomegranates have lots of benefits, especially for the heart and they're rich in antioxidants, shown to boost testosterone, inhibit cancer cell growth, boost memory, etc.

The Vitamix blender will pulverize the seeds for your juice in nothing flat.

The Welles hydraulic juice press works very well to press all the juice out of pomegranates if you want crystal clear juice. Then you can dehydrate and pulverize the seeds to add to other dishes.

* (I don't know what the problem is with the people giving the Wells press poor reviews. It does a great job.)

I don't have a Vitamix but I'd rather just straight up juice it and then use a strainer (nut milk bag). Plus blending will probably oxidize it quicker. Tomorrow is day 1, time to stock up on pomegranates and coconuts lol.

Nah, the Vitamix won't oxidize it quicker. That's just a myth. Takes less minute to blend them smooth at the most then just drink it.

Find a Mexican grocery store. I just bought young coconuts for $2.50 each and pomegranates for $1.50 each.

Before you start make sure you have an accurate beginning weight number and weigh yourself in the morning after you have voided everything. You will also want to make sure that you know your Water % and your Body Fat%.

Water % is HUGE as most people are below 50% when it should be closer to 70%. It's also amazing how long it takes to rehydrate on a cellular level. I coach people all the time that are drinking a gallon of water every day before they start and yet, they are still below 50% Water and it takes 3 months just to bump it up to 60%. Once again, it should be closer to 70%!

Interestingly, you may only lose 10 pounds on the scale, but if your Water % goes from 50% to 60%, you may very well have lost 20-25 pounds and gained back 10-15 pounds of much needed Water, for example.

You will also want to make sure that you consume at least 1500 to 1800 calories every day depending upon how much lean body mass you have and how active you are. Multiply your lean body mass by 13.79 and that will tell you how many Calories you are burning at rest, i.e. BMR or RMR. And then, to this we need to add your activity.

For example, if you are 5' 10", your ideal weight should be around 150 pounds at 15% Body Fat. So 150 X 85% X 13.79 = 1758 Calories for your BMR or RMR. Now let's say you walk 8 miles in 2 hours and on average we burn ~100 Calories for every mile we walk or run, so that would be another ~800 Calories for a total of 2658 Calories. Now it depends on how much Vegetable Juice you drink versus Fruit Juice and if we assume it's 50-50 (ideally it should be 100% Vegetable Juice), then you will probably be consuming ~70% Carbohydrates and will need to drink a minimum of ~1539 Calories - see below.

1758 X 60% = 1055
400 X 41.58% = 166
400 X 90% = 360

2658 - 1581 (1055 + 166 + 360) = 1077 / .7 = 1539

So if you are are 5' 10" and weigh 150 pounds, you will need to drink somewhere between 1539 to 2658 Calories every day and if you average 150 Calories per pint, that equates to ~10 to ~18 pints every day and if you average 200 Calories per pint, that equates to ~8 to ~13 pints every day. If these numbers are difficult to attain, drink a 50-50 ratio of Sweet Potato and Apple Juice, which has 430 Calories per pint.

In addition to drinking enough Calories to protect your lean body mass, take 1 Tbs of Flax or Hemp Oil every day to make sure you give your Gallbladder enough Fat so that you don't have a Gallbladder Attack. Vegetables are ~12% Fat so you will probably not have a problem, but to be on the safe side you might want to add 1 Tbs of Flax or Hemp Oil every day.

In addition to giving your body everything it needs, be sure to support all of your Organs of Elimination, especially your Bowel. It's imperative that you have at least 1 BM every day to avoid a Cleansing Reaction, but since you are so young, you might not have that problem. But if you do have a Cleansing Reaction, then you are NOT as clean as you want to be. Also make sure that you are Squatting when you defecate. We should always Squat when we defecate, but especially so while on a Juice Fast/Feast.

On a final note, we also have to support our body in case we have any Temporary Impairment or Permanent Damage and this is the only time that it can get complicated. Remember, there is the Science of Healing that is based on the Anatomical Limitations that we were given at birth and there is the Art of Healing that is based on the Anatomical Limitations from making Mistakes that have Damaged Ourselves, Society and the Environment and since we cannot change everything overnight, we may need a few extra Supplements and/or Protocols.

"Nah, the Vitamix won't oxidize it quicker. That's just a myth."

It may or may not be a myth but I haven't seen definitive evidence either way. It seems to make sense, though, since when you slice for example an apple, it begins to oxidize. And when you blend something, you're slicing it up thousands of times. Plus the high-power blending could effect enzymes and nutrients.

"Find a Mexican grocery store. I just bought young coconuts for $2.50 each and pomegranates for $1.50 each."

Nice, were they organic? I've heard that coconuts don't really need to be organic because they're grown high in the tree's and therefore don't need to be sprayed with anything, plus they have a tough, thick shell. On the other hand, I've seen studies which show that non-organic coconuts contain much higher levels of pesticides.

The first thing I did when I got the Vitamix was test it for oxidizing. With pomegranates, as with many other foods, you can tell what's going on by how long it takes for the color to change. Remember, when you are blending the O2 exposure is drastically minimized by the food always being kept wet.

No whole organic young coconuts available in the mid west that I know of.
If I want ones that haven't been sprayed I have to get the unhusked older ones from Mexico. The husked ones have all been sprayed with shite so they don't mold while being shipped.

If you want organic, and don't live where they are grown, you can order them online from Florida growers but it's expensive.

That IS interesting, I don't think I'll be able to measure my body fat or water percentage beforehand but it's good information for next time. How do you measure water % anyways? I think my water % should be in good condition, maybe not optimal but still at a healthy percentage. I drink near a gallon of distilled water each day as well as sprout/grass juices and some fruit.

"In addition to drinking enough Calories to protect your lean body mass, take 1 Tbs of Flax or Hemp Oil every day to make sure you give your Gallbladder enough Fat so that you don't have a Gallbladder Attack. Coconut oil should suffice as well, right? Not sure about the fat content of coconut water, sprout/grass juice or pomegranate juice but I'm sure it's very low. I might add a little bit of carrot juice to the regimen as well.

"But if you do have a Cleansing Reaction, then you are NOT as clean as you want to be."

Are you referring strictly to not having the urge to @#$%& or detox symptoms in general?

"we may need a few extra Supplements and/or Protocols."

I have algae's, bee pollen, systemic enzymes, and some "oxy-Powder" on hand which will hopefully facilitate the cleansing process.

"You will also want to make sure that you consume at least 1500 to 1800 calories every day depending upon how much lean body mass you have and how active you are."

Good info, I may try and consume near 1800-2000 calories because I plan on using a sauna everyday as well.

I live in the Midwest and my local co-op has one brand of whole organic young thai coconuts but they're quite expensive ($5 each).

I wonder if the higher the vitamin C content, the more time it takes to oxidize. Maybe adding some camu camu powder could preserve it nicely.

"Are you referring strictly to not having the urge to @#$%& or detox symptoms in general?"

Lol apparently you can't say p o o p.

"we may need a few extra Supplements and/or Protocols."

Forgot to add, what do you think of the things I listed in terms of cleansing protocols while juice fasting?

I'd get one just to see if it takes any longer for them to mold than the sprayed ones. Maybe they really are unsprayed but I doubt it.

Well the higher the antioxidant levels certainly help protect the fruit that have it.

I've seen a lot of "gurus" say to add lemon or lime juice to preserve mixed fruit and leafy green smoothies. Don't listen to them. The lemon juice will just marinate the greens and turn them to slime unless you drink it up right away.

According to CRON-O-Meter (which is really just a ballpark estimate and not to be used as official data)...

12 cups of coconut water, 6 cups of pomegranate juice, 2 cups of carrot juice, and 1 TBS of extra-virgin coconut oil will give me roughly 1700 calories. However, this doesn't account for chlorella, AFA blue-green algae, bee pollen, and sprout/grass juice. Lots of sugar but hopefully the phytochemicals and enzymes in the sprouts & grasses as well as the algae's will protect from any potential damaging effects. Bee pollen is also very rich in enzymes.

<<<How do you measure water % anyways?>>>

They have scales that will measure Body Fat %, Water %, Muscle Mass % and Bone Mass % for only $50. They even have ones that can measure Muscle Mass % per limb for over $600. I highly recommend that everyone should know their Water % and you can always return the scale if $ is a factor. Of course, if those numbers are low, you will want to monitor them since Water is so important!

<<<Coconut oil should suffice as well, right?>>>

Yes, Coconut Oil will keep you from having a Gallbladder Attack, but if you want to make sure that you are getting all of our Essential Fatty Acids, I’d go with the Flax or the Hemp Oil. Flax is OK for men, but not women. Women need more Omega 6 than men, so they’ll want to use something like Hemp Oil.

As far as the Cocunut Water, it only has 100 Calories per pint, so we can use it, but it’s relatively low in Calories and should be more of a supplement versus a base since we would have to drink such a huge amount to get the Calories we need.

<<<Are you referring strictly to not having the urge to @#$%& or detox symptoms in general?>>>

Cleansing Reactions are Flu-like symptoms - headaches, fever, nausea, etc.

<<<I have algae's, bee pollen, systemic enzymes, and some "oxy-Powder" on hand which will hopefully facilitate the cleansing process.>>>

Great, you’re good to go!

<<<Forgot to add, what do you think of the things I listed in terms of cleansing protocols while juice fasting?>>>

Those are all great additions. The only problem with the bee pollen is that it might keep that sleeping giant, HUNGER, alive by chewing on something. I’ve only used it a few times and it’s hard not to want to eat the whole jar. The Oxy-Powder would be good to use before you had a Cleansing Reaction and my philosophy is that you might be having 1 or 2 BMs every day without doing anything, but we may have 4 or 5 BMs every day when we use Enemas or Oxy-Powder so we might see the same results in 30 days that we would have in 60 or 90 days. Most things we use that help our Bowel move are slippery slopes so I always let my students decide what they want to do, but the Oxy-Powder seems to be something that is not habit forming so to speak.

By the way, I was talking to Dr. Edward Group recently, the guy who formulated Oxy-Powder, and he was telling me that he has obtained access to the lost techniques of Paracelsus and how he is now the only person in the world who is using this knowledge to make the best of all supplements, like Nascent Iodine, for example.

I hope you are taking off time from work - or at least not driving. You could get slammed hard when you least expect it.

I definitely had that in mind but I was thinking that would be more important over the long haul as opposed to only juice fasting for around a week or so. I would for sure have to do more planning if I wanted to extend the length. What do you think of hemp milk (strained) during juice fasts?

"As far as the Cocunut Water, it only has 100 Calories per pint, so we can use it, but it’s relatively low in Calories and should be more of a supplement versus a base since we would have to drink such a huge amount to get the Calories we need."

It is pretty low in calories but it's so refreshing lol. Do you see any issues with drinking 10-12 cups daily besides having to go to the bathroom a lot? I know it has a decent amount of sodium but it's nothing that should pose any issues and the overall balance of electrolytes is almost perfect.

"Cleansing Reactions are Flu-like symptoms - headaches, fever, nausea, etc."

Wouldn't be surprised if I had some type of detox symptoms, I'm sure I still have a decent amount of detoxing to do after 19-19.5 years on a SAD (which is why I wish I could afford consistent daily coffee enema's/colon hydrotherapy lol). My detox symptoms are typically the same nowadays and they don't happen nearly as often as they used to, but it's usually just skin eruptions/dry skin and irritability.

"Those are all great additions. The only problem with the bee pollen is that it might keep that sleeping giant, HUNGER, alive by chewing on something. I’ve only used it a few times and it’s hard not to want to eat the whole jar."

Good point, plus it does taste pretty good. What types of foods and their components interfere with juice fasting? For example, why would fruit interfere with the juice fast but algae's and bee pollen do not?

"By the way, I was talking to Dr. Edward Group recently, the guy who formulated Oxy-Powder, and he was telling me that he has obtained access to the lost techniques of Paracelsus and how he is now the only person in the world who is using this knowledge to make the best of all supplements, like Nascent Iodine, for example."

A technique used to make the supplements he produces? I'll probably need to take more than the recommended serving of Oxy-Powder given that I've taken the normal dosage multiple times in the past and did not have 3 to 5 bowel movements the following day as it says should be expected.

Hopefully not lol but it does seem like a potent regimen. Going to do my best to keep the toxins flowing out.

Not sure but I'm going to use primarily mature coconut water since they are much cheaper. One mature coconut (organic) is about $2 and gives about one cup of coconut water.

<<<What do you think of hemp milk (strained) during juice fasts?>>>

Any pulp-free or fiber-less liquids are OK. However, nut mylks might wake up that sleeping giant, so back off of them if they make you want to eat.

<<<Do you see any issues with drinking 10-12 cups daily besides having to go to the bathroom a lot?>>>

Not really, except that you might want a little bit more variety from day to day. It’s also relatively low in protein, but you should do OK with everything else you’re doing.

<<<What types of foods and their components interfere with juice fasting? For example, why would fruit interfere with the juice fast but algae's and bee pollen do not?>>>

Every time we eat solid food it takes away energy from below, so when we consume bee pollen or algae, it’s usually a very small quantity and should not take away too much energy from cleansing. The concept of Juice Fasting is to stop wasting energy separating the fiber from the juice and then, that energy can be redirected or rechanneled and used for cleansing and healing.

Ok, thanks for the tips! Another question I have is, why can juice fasting without a little fat induce gallbladder attacks?
