Weasels don't really care about getting down to the nitty gritty of truth about Clements or anyone else in the raw food movement. They, as ever, always divert attention away from the subject at hand.

There is always something else to point to and that's what they've taken it upon their small-minded clannish selves to do. No better than football fans rooting for "their" home team which usually doesn't have many locals even playing the game at all. The weasels are blind to their sophomoric goofiness which everyone else can see right through. Getting to the truth is not their goal.

No one is saying that we should NOT get to truth about Clement.

That's a Straw Man Argument sUEz!!!

However, let's NOT get DISTRACTED and forget about the Big Picture!

Clement's CRIME pales in comparison to that of ORGANIZED MEDICINE!!!

By all means, let's get to the bottom of both, but where should we start?

How many people does Clement KILL by his LIES?

How many people does ORGANIZED MEDICINE KILL by their LIES?

Fail sauce, Cupcake. "They" are pouncing on this as an excuse to get rid of so much more than one person. Do you want to live in a country where places like Hippocrates Institute are not allowed? Realize that those with "credentials" will be professional sheeple getting "trained" for a piece of paper that proves their conditioning. The Medical Mafia will triumph.

If this is what you are advocating for (and it appears it is), you, my dear, have jumped the shark...

Nothing is stopping you from starting a thread on other subjects elsewhere. Why not start one? You can preach to the choir there instead of shoehorning your boorish second hand pseudo philosophizing on this and every thread.

Raw food and all your goofy causes are only one and the same thing in your head. You are old enough to have learned that by now but you haven't.

Another interesting facet on ?Dr.? Brian Clement is that on the Bio section on him at HHI/Florida, it is claimed that he has done decades of "research", presumably in the alternative health field. However a check of PubMed online, which has something like 24 million research papers, clinical studies, etc., Clement's name as author or even contributor shows up No Place. In fact that's true of anyone from the HHI/Florida organization itself that I could find. And PubMed DOES include many, many published papers, clinical studies etc. from alternative health journals such as chiropractic, homeopathy, etc., so that any claim that "alternative" is shut out there is bogus.

So the only conclusions I can reach is that Clement has not done the claimed research or that his research is not of a quality acceptable to legitimate journals. Or perhaps there's another reason?

I've looked in the past for some high-quality saffron but haven't been able to find any. Do you know of a good source? What types of dishes is saffron usually in?

This is the best saffron I've ever found. It even smells divine. You can put a bit of it in a little hot water overnight and in the morning add it to nut milks, soups, salad dressings, smoothies, teas, and tonics. I haven't yet but I'm thinking about making some chocolate with saffron, cayenne, and cardamom for the holidays.

Brian Clement probably has the finest experience in the alternative healing profession of anyone in history (40+ years with over 200,000 people), so we can't underestimate his knowledge and experience. The experience working at HHI is worth ten Ph D's imo. Brian Clement is a legend in the raw food movement...one of the mighty three (Vik, Ann, Brian). Of course Dr Ann was the greatest raw food legend there ever was and probably ever will be, but Dr Brian is the current King.

Here's some more information on Saffron...

Saffron & Depression and Mental Fog...

Hi Paul,

I just found an article that has the dosage for saffron, as well as the dosage for other natural remedies we've talked about. Here is the section on saffron and see the PS below for the article. I'm also attaching my updated file on Depression and Mental Fog, which has this article at the very end.

Saffron: Spice Up Depression and Help Digestion

Saffron is a well-known Persian spice used for its ability to help the digestive system heal. Because most neurotransmitters are made in the digestive tract, this might be the reason saffron has been shown in studies to elevate low mood. As the most expensive spice, it is high in carotenoids and B vitamins. In studies, saffron has been compared to both Prozac and Imipramine, and found to work at least as well, or better, with less side effects.

While the petal is the expensive part of the herb, you can also take capsules of the stigma part of the plant, which is less expensive, but still contains the powerful mood-enhancing ingredients. Studies use a dose of 15 mg twice a day. No toxicity has been shown when taking saffron in therapeutic amounts or in cooking.

Yours for Better Health,

John

While everyone experiences “the blues” from time to time, depression is a kind of low mood that can affect a person’s ability to effectively live and enjoy life.

Depression impacts about 120 million people worldwide, with about 6% of men and 9.5% of women experiencing this condition. The World Health Organization predicts depression to become the second most burdensome disease by 2020, which means it will cost society, in terms of medical care, sickness and days lost from work, more than every other condition except heart disease.

“My Depression Drug Is Not Working and It’s Making Me Fat.”

If you feel your medication is not really helping, and is causing unwanted problems like weight gain and low sex drive, you are not alone.

As one of the most well prescribed types of drug of all time, over 160 million antidepressant prescriptions are written annually, despite the fact that a 2010 study in the Journal of the American Medical Association revealed antidepressants to be no more effective than placebos (sugar pills) in most cases of depression. Anti-depressants are shown to be helpful in the minority of very severely depressed cases, and should be used when needed for these cases.

Studies also show that antidepressants can cause a laundry list of side effects, including sexual side effects, fertility problems, increased weight gain and diabetes risk, blood-pressure problems, increased heart attack risk, heart defects in unborn children – even increased desire to commit suicide.

The Naturopathic Advantage for Depression

The reason why antidepressants do not work in most cases of depression is because these drugs target only one aspect of this complex condition: neurotransmitters, the brain's "mood molecules." When “feel-good” neurotransmitters like dopamine, epinephrine and serotonin are low, artificially raising the levels with the drugs can sometimes help in the minority of the most severe cases.

Unfortunately, depression is a multi-factorial issue. While conventional medicine focuses only on neurotransmitters, naturopathic and holistic medicines are at an advantage to treat the many factors that contribute to depression:

• sleep and lifestyle issues
• lack of exercise
• poor diet choices and poor digestion
• inflammation in the body and the brain
• hormonal imbalances
• stress and spiritual issues
• nutrient and healthy oil deficiencies
• environmental toxicity

Case Study: Lenore

For example, one very depressed and anxious 48-year-old patient we will call “Lenore” came to our office after she had tried five different antidepressants over a three-year period. After listening carefully to her story and asking for some testing, we learned her thyroid was working sub-optimally, her vitamin D, B12 and iron was low, and her early life experiences produced negative thought patterns that did not allow her have a more positive outlook.

To help, we gave her some essential fatty acids, vitamin D, B12 and iron, as well as thyroid support. We worked on her digestion in order to allow better nutrient absorption. We also prescribed 100mg of 5-HTP twice a day (more on this later), recommended acupuncture, and she also started to work on her negative thought patterns. Her depression lifted in about one month after starting treatment, and she no longer needed medication. For Lenore, no one recommendation might have worked, but all of them together did the job.

A naturopathic physician, or other well-trained holistically minded doctor, will work with all these factors to truly create an individualized solution to the menace that is depression.

Nutrients and Herbs for Depression?

There are many wonderful and safe nutrients and botanical medicines (herbs) that can help with low mood. For this article, we are going to focus on a few nutrients that we have seen to be very useful, and sometimes miraculous to help our patients who are suffering from depression. Of course, it is very important to remember that if you are not looking into the many factors listed earlier to address the underlying causes of depression, these nutrients or herbs alone may not do the trick.

Also, if you are taking antidepressant medications, you should always check with your prescribing doctor before changing your medication dosage, or using these supplements along with your medications.

St. John’s Wort for Low-Level Depression

St. John’s wort is the most studied herb of all time. It’s Latin name Hypericum perforatum means “above a ghost” and the plant was originally gathered as a way to ward off evil spirits. Rigorous studies have shown St. John’s wort to be quite useful in treating depression illness. While early researchers thought St. John’s wort worked like a weak version of an antidepressant drug, current research suggests that St. John’s wort has many effects on both the brain and the body. St. John’s wort is known to help digestion, act as an antiviral, has anti-inflammatory properties and supports thyroid function. It also gently balances the neurotransmitters GABA, norepinephrine, serotonin and dopamine.

In our practice, we find depression sufferers who have a long-term chronic type of depression called dysthymia often do the best with this herb. If you can get out of bed and function at a job, but are just generally still low in mood, self-esteem and zest for life, this may be a good herb for you.

You can take St. John’s wort in capsule, as a tea, or as a liquid extract, which is a concentrated form of the herb. It is usually dosed in capsule form at 900 mg to 1800 mg a day in divided doses.

Please note St. John’s wort can affect the effectiveness of other medications. Two studies show it can help the drug Plavix work better in people for whom it did not initially work. Other studies show it can lower the effects of birth control pills and immune suppressants. So, if you are taking medications, check with your doctor or pharmacist before using St. John’s wort.

Studies use a dose of 15 mg twice a day. No toxicity has been shown when taking saffron in therapeutic amounts or in cooking.

5-HTP for Depression With Anxiety

5-hyrdroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is an amino acid found in low amounts in foods like turkey and bananas. 5-HTP is the molecule the body uses to make serotonin, a molecule that helps elevate mood. While many antidepressants artificially stop the production of enzymes that breakdown serotonin, 5-HTP gives the body more of the raw materials it needs to make more serotonin. 5-HTP is very good at crossing the blood brain barrier, which means it is a molecule that can get into the brain to help achieve a needed change in brain chemistry.

5-HTP is best used with someone who has both depression and anxiety. It is also an effective choice for people who have insomnia and cannot stay asleep. Finally, there is some research that suggests it has benefit with weight loss.

While there are no known toxicities of 5-HTP, some people can get a little nausea when taking 5-HTP, so it helps to take it with some carbohydrate, like a slice of apple, which will also help its absorption. We often dose it at 100 mg twice a day, up to 200 mg three times a day.

SAMe for Depression With Aging and Pain

SAMe stands for S-adenosylmethionine, and is a naturally occurring chemical in the body based on the amino acid methionine; it helps boost a number of neurotransmitters. SAMe also helps with healthy nerve conduction as well. It also has been shown to be helpful with patients who have arthritis and joint pain.

We love SAMe as it tends to work quickly, often lifting mood within days rather than weeks, whereas most other supplements and drugs take longer.

It has been shown to be very useful for Parkinson’s Disease patients with depression, and some studies suggest it may be most beneficial in the senior population. Other studies show it to be safe for children too, and preliminary research shows it may be safe in pregnancy, though more research is needed.

Dosing for SAMe starts slowly. Usually, we recommend a dosage of 200 mg twice daily, for the first day, then increase to 400 mg twice daily on day three, then to 400mg three times daily on day 10, and finally to the full dose of 400 mg four times daily.

Conclusion

There are many natural options for depression from the natural medicine world. Addressing underlying lifestyle, diet, digestive and psychological causes is very important for long-term results. Using St. John’s wort, saffron, 5-HTP or SAMe can be a healthful and effective part of healing from depression.

I just made and ate an experimental breakfast porridge Storm may want to try.

0.25 c. chia seeds
1 T. maca (my hand slipped - usually I just use a t.)
1 T. cocoa powder
1 T. golden berries
2 T. birch xylitol + a squirt of liquid stevia (or sweetener of your choice)
seeds from 2 cardamom pods
1 pinch saffron
1 pinch of salt

I ground up the above ingredients in my Indian mixie, (because it works better for this type of chore and is way easier to clean than the Vitamix or coffee grinder), and put them in a bowl. I then added 6 drops of fulvic acid (which naturally has both boron and zinc in it) and 1.5 c. hot water and stirred well. Then I added in 1. T coconut oil (helps with omega-3 chain conversion).

Tasted pretty good and made a very satisfying quick power packed morning meal.
I'll work on tweaking it. Needs some nutmeg, maybe, for one thing.

I think John Rose understands this probably more than I do.
The simplest, easiest, do it all remedy for all of these diseases is a well functioning digestive system.
When that works the body will heal itself from anything.

Hi Storm,

My advice on your depression -

If it's purely mental - meaning if like a lot of us, you screwed up your brain with alcohol and drugs - I would say you need to be in the best possible mental and emotional health you can - and that is only through staying 100% Raw. And being that we're also interested in natural alternative health, keep searching and experimenting (but be careful even of 'natural' remedies and healing modalities) to keep hope alive. Searching and doing - and writing and saying 'the story' aloud - is part of 'the process' that we have to go through for an issue - the facets of everything.

If it's soul-deep - you can tell the difference when it comes from some place else - you could benefit from spiritual help through praying and talking to your angels, reading uplifting spiritual material, maybe stuff on spiritual healing, self-healing. (Huna is interesting) Meditation. Go to a church, museum, library, out in nature. Uplifting music (some classical can be depressing or dark); maybe spa, new age, sax. Sound healing. The brain wave stuff Bryan is into.

Also, get interested in something new, even if you have to force yourself, even if it's just to take away the boredom or stop the ruminating. Any positive feedback can snowball and spark a real interest or at least take your mind off yourself. If one thing doesn't do it for you, try something else.

But the bottom line is -

If you have your health, you have everything.

Think of all the people in other countries who are poor and in physical pain - the last thing they're obsessed with is their emotional feelings and how mentally tortured they feel and worrying about their social lives. If they only had their health.

If you don't have any physical aches and pains, you should be thanking God every day. At night, count your blessings - it's a great way to fall asleep.

Depression, like most disease, is either a deficiency, a toxicity, or both. It could also be caused by a life event such as the loss of a loved one, getting divorced, etc., which in that case it's a natural human emotion based off your situation and not a disease.

In the case of depression... deficiencies are usually in one or more of the following: omega-3's, vitamin D3, B-vitamins (including B12), magnesium, probiotics, essential amino acids. For depression, I would recommend AFA blue-green algae, marine phytoplankton, royal jelly, curcumin, saffron, probiotics, mucuna, lion's mane (medicinal mushroom), and lithium. Best to figure out if your depression is the result of a life event or nutritional deficiencies, but the aforementioned items would help nonetheless.

Exercising will also help for a variety of reasons... increased blood flow to the brain, the release of endorphins and the production of cannabinoids within the body (endocannabinoids), primarily anandamide. The more research I do on cannabinoids, the more I'm fascinated by how truly important they seem to be in regards to optimal health. They're found in breast milk and produced during exercise and essentially maintain homeostasis throughout the entire body. The activation of CB receptors is a powerful tool against disease and aging. Maybe that's part of why chocolate is such a well-known longevity food, it's rich in anandamide and therefore activates these receptors which go on to exert powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, immune-boosting, and neuroprotective effects.

Try some homemade sprouted almond milk with some raw honey, gelatinized black maca, and pure curcumin smiling smiley

Don't advise people to mess with lithium.

"Don't advise people to mess with lithium."

Why not? Obviously all treatment options should be discussed with a (preferably) naturopathic doctor.

[www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] - "This is the first meta-analysis suggesting antisuicidal effects of lithium in recurrent MDD, similar in magnitude to that found in bipolar disorders".

[www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] - "Augmentation of antidepressants with lithium is the best-documented augmentation therapy in the treatment of refractory depression. Emerging data from animal studies suggest that the 5-HTergic system is involved in the augmentatory effect of lithium".

[www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] - "In conclusion, augmentation of antidepressants with lithium remains a first-line, evidence-based management option for patients with major depression who have not responded adequately to antidepressants".

[www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] - "The results of a forced swimming test revealed that the chronic treatment with lithium improved the depression-like behavior seen in the impaired animals. Taken together, our data suggest that lithium had a beneficial effect on neuronal repair following neuronal loss in the dentate gyrus through promoted proliferation and survival/neuronal differentiation of neural stem/progenitor cells in the subgranular zone".

It requires professional monitoring. Often. Dosage is critical.

KFCA, thank you for your work. It seems pretty clear that his "research" will not be forthcoming without legal force. My bet would be on any upcoming problem he may have being settled with $$ and a nondisclosure clause.
