They all look great, and an excellent article. It makes me wonder how a bunch of them eat such ordinary raw diets like everyone else yet they succeed whereas many fail to thrive.

Maybe it is not just the diet but their emotional and mental bodies.

I think the concept of looking "decades younger" is an interesting concept. It's based on a comparison to the average person with the average diet and average genes, I suppose? But what if THOSE people look "decades older" (than some comparison) and the raw foodists just look NORMAL. All based on your perception of "normal."

Yes, she is completely awesome. She is 67 years of age.

There are a few other raw vegan ladies who look amazing too. Will try to post some another day.

I think its hard to find an ugly raw vegan. I think it is super hard. A true one. RHIO also comes to mind. DO you guys remember her?

Yes. I think you are correct. The people who eat and live
well are the NORMALs and the SAD eaters look older than they
are.

People mistake me for a much younger person. I tell them
that this is what it's supposed to be like.

I am beginning to think that eating well raw (and exercising)
is not necessarily a life extender or health extender. It's
just a way to avoid premature aging or diseases of excess.
It's just a way to stop doing the wrong things.

I don't think there is really any antiaging stragegy, not even
calorie restriction or methionine restriction. Those are just
ways to avoid unnecessary accelerated aging.

Having said that I love to look at pictures of attractive, vital,
older raw foodists. They are very inspiring.

Yes, they get older, they get wrinkled, they get frailer. But they
seem to do better than the general public. In general.

Please keep posting the beautiful pictures of older people who
eat well. I love them.

Maybe it is not just the raw thing but the how it is done.
For example Tonya Zavasta does not eat much.
She has her last meal at 2pm.
Some rawfoodist overload their system with constant eating.
Because it is raw it is always good for my body, they reason

Tonya isn't overly active. Neither is she emaciated. I do not think she is very restricted. But she does practice sun protection. That makes a huge difference in the quality of the skin. It is especially evident in people over 40 and 50. I can't tell much from her videos as they are soft focus but from what I can see she is doing good things.

I think that exercising is an essential component of being healthy, for your bones and to fight sarcopenia. If you exercise you will need to eat more than the absolute minimum.

I worry about the young beautiful ones like Mike Arnstein. He moved to Hawaii, he is totally brown, and what is he going to look like in 10-20 years if he keeps on baking himself? Dr. Graham.

Very true.
Exercise a key component. The issue may be which one?
moderate exercise vs vigorous exercise.
Some claim that vigorous exercise will kill cells that are not repairable.
My other keys component are digestive health and periodic cleansing.

[well.blogs.nytimes.com]

"twice a week by jogging or cycling at a moderately strenuous pace, equivalent to at least 65 percent of their maximum aerobic capacity for 30 minutes."

I would guess you need equal time with weight-bearing exercise.

Exercise will cause stress (good). Stress causes autophagy and elimination of weaker-old cells and the birth of new ones. Death of weaker cells (initiated by mitochondria) is what keeps the body young. The stress from exercise also activates the enzyme AMPK. You can activate Ampk through:

Exercise
Low caloric diet
food choices: grapefruit, berries, vinegar, certain herbs

Dark greens will help the skin stay wrinkle free. B3 (beets, green vegetables, etc) also helps by stimulating protein synthesis.

It seems to be strongly DNA related in how some people are raw vegan and look much better than many others because they seem better able to utilise the food and various energies from being a raw vegan. And we can see that many of their diets are nothing extroadinary, where-as other people on similar raw diets do so poorly.

Yes, protecting the beautiful face is always important during sunbathing most of the day. I never keep my face exposed during whole body exposure, it is always covered.

That's always the issue.

Tonya had an eye job a while back. Her eyes were originally hooded. She had some skin removed from the upper lids. They are unusually and unnaturally rounded now. It looks like she also had something removed from below because there are different contours there now.

It is normal to lose bony mass under the eyes, the eyes seem to sink inward with age. But hers seem to have become more prominent. A doctor did it to her!

I met Tonya in person. I listened to one of her talks at our raw vegan potluck meeting place. I think her main emphasis is that you can have radiant skin on raw vegan and generally look your best. Even though she was wearing makeup, her skin did look nice for her age.

When raw vegan food did not heal her hip condition, instead of telling the world that it helped her avoid surgery (which it did not), she emphasized how it made her look radiant. I think she really wanted to share raw with the world in some way, and it ended up taking the form of beauty. She is self conscious about her gait (after hip surgery), so maximizing her beauty makes her feel better about herself (this is my interpretation, even though most women want to look their best no matter what, anyway.)

Many russians' eyes look a bit asian, so IF she had surgery, it might just be due to that, as opposed to her aging. Her eyes looked normal to me, in person. All in all, I think she is a sweet lady.

Wow. I wish Tonya was my mom. She is beautiful, in an old european way. I bet you she has an accent. I have her two books. She seems kind to me. An unlikely raw food guru. Business woman. I love the 80's hair.

Her son is cute too. Is she a single mom? Guest 1

Lots of respect for Tonya, and really love her. Apparently she has between 1,300 - 1,500 calories per day and says that when you get older you can require less calories, but people under 40 are recommended by Tonya to keep calories up. She does have a strong ltalian accent.

Yes, I respect her, too.

She is very bright and reads papers but she dumbs it down for her audience.

She is Russian, very strong accent. She has some youtube videos.

But she can't attribute everything to raw. She has had work done--the cut and stitch kind.

I am not so sure at this point in my life that calorie restriction is the best way to extend healthspan. Methionine restriction is as good. Possibly better, possibly responsible for most of the benefits of CR anyway.

I do best unrestricted but raw, eating everything I wanted but also exercising 2 hrs per day.

It's different for everyone but I know for me, I have to be very active to be at my peak, and that means more food, not less.

I think Lou Corona wrote me once on veggie date.

My vote also goes to Arnold Kaufman. From Lansdale PA, he owns a raw vegan cafe and is so passionate. When I met him he comforted me and made me feel important again. I was going through a lot. He is actually very alive, he acted like an 18 year old around me. He is a sweetheart and if I wanted I am sure he and I would have been great friends but I lived too far away.
