How to Remove Pesticides from Non-Organically Grown Produce

As much as everyone may want to go organic, it can be costly to purchase all-organic fruits, vegetables and other items all the time. It doesn’t help that traditional stores are typically limited in their selection of organic produce, especially during specific times of the year.

The good news is that you can naturally remove pesticides from non-organically grown produce to achieve a similar “organic” lifestyle!

There are 3 top ways that allow you to do it: the produce wash, produce spray and produce products. Each one has its own benefits, however, the first two are do-it-yourself items that you can make at home using items around the house!

Do-It-Yourself Natural Pesticide Removers

One of my favorite methods to remove pesticides in an all-natural way is to make my own, homemade produce spray. The spray uses simple ingredients and only takes about 5 minutes to make.

Simply mix together a tablespoon of lemon juice, a cup of water and 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Mix them well until the baking soda has completely dissolved, then put the mixture into a spray bottle. Spray it onto the fruits or vegetables you’d like to, leave it there for 5-10 minutes and then rinse it off. It’s that simple!

The homemade produce wash is, if possible, even simpler.

It takes two ingredients: vinegar and water. That’s it! Clean a large bowl or the sink out really good before filling it with 4 parts water and 1 part vinegar. You can set the produce into the wash for up to an hour (though apples can remain for up to another hour). Remove your produce, rinse with clean water and chow down! The leftover water will have all the nasty pesticide gunk floating in it, giving you a harsh look into the reality of non-organically grown fruits and vegetables.

Those ways won't work on systemic pesticides though.
