carob and cacao

Does anyone eat the carob straight from the pod? If so, how? And, where do you get it? Did you ever see a carob tree. I think I spotted one.. but I am not sure. And I mean , I am HIGHLY uncertain lolsmiling smiley Maybe I'll go revisit the place again and examine it more closely.

Well, whatever it was that I saw ( carob tree or not) it was a remarkable looking tree with thick heavy green "pod" like structure... they were kind of intimidating and also awe inspiring. I pulled one off. It felt like a mini baseball bat lolsmiling smiley Seriously, you could have hit a golf ball with that green pod and not have broken it. If anyone who is familiar with the carob plant thinks it is highly unlikely that I can hit a golf ball with this green pod thing I saw, let me know...then maybe I will reconsider imagining that I saw a carob plant.

Anyhow, just wondering if anyone has eaten it straight from the tree.

Also, ( even of greater interest) .. has anyone eaten the white pudding like fruit that surrounds the cacao bean? Where? How did it taste?
