Retaining water after starting new exercise routine?

Date: January 13, 2016 03:49PM I have always been a fairly 'active' person, but never really had any set workout routine. I decided to try this year to get in better shape since I know healthy diet is only 1/2 of good health. I started a HIIT routine about 2 weeks ago. I have (surprisingly) not been horribly sore, and very quick recovery times (guessing thats all the raw foods). Other than mild soreness (to be expected) I feel totally fine.
The ONLY thing I've changed in my diet is I've started adding 1/4 cup of hemp seeds to my morning smoothie for the extra protein boost at my husbands insistence, otherwise I haven't changed my diet at all. I do about 85-90% raw consistently (cooked foods I have a few times a week are like tea or quinoa or beans or heated soup kind of thing, no processed junk at all). I consume about 1800-2000 calories a day and am a 5'7 woman around 130lbs. In the past 2 weeks it seems I have put on a couple pounds of water weight (I can't see it being fat or muscle in this short of time). I can only imagine it's due to the working out. I've read on several sites it's pretty normal for women to gain some water weight after starting a new routine before loosing it again. However, none of those sites take into account the kind of diet I'm on. I read on a few low sodium/imbalance of water to sodium in the body can cause retention. I do add salt VERY sparingly to my food as I have never really liked salty foods (and don't get it anywhere else since I don't eat packaged foods). Is it possible I need to eat a little more salt? If so, how much? Or is this just a normal response to a new workout routine that will pass with time? Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
