Date: January 17, 2016 08:15PM What did it taste like? Did it have any scent or juice? Did you return it to the grocer or were you too embarrassed to admit your were conned and just meekly compost the thing without requesting a refund for the rip off? Date: January 17, 2016 11:20PM Come to think of it I have never seen anyone in a checkout line buying an unripe pineapple. Hmm. Maybe I should interview produce managers. Re: Anyone Here Ever Bought One of Those Green Pineapples Touted as Ripe?

Date: January 21, 2016 07:27PM I already said I did. But they had big paper labels wrapped around the neck, saying very sweet or something like that. They WERE very sweet and ripe, even though they were green. But without the label, they are just regular green pineapples that cut your skin. Tai I remembered you said this "Yes, I have had sweet green pineapples, but I tend to cringe at the thought of opening a green pineapple, unless it is explicitly stated on the label to be very sweet" But you were talking in that thread about pineapples which you bought green and which you said you ripened in the sun for days before you ate. I didn't realize till what you said just now those actually had labels on them saying they were very sweet. Here I'm talking about these obviously juiceless hard looking green pineapples that janetc and I do not think look ripe at all, and that the guy is cutting up while they are still green. Date: January 21, 2016 08:15PM to be clear, I have bought many pineapples of all kinds and colors and degrees of ripeness.
WHen I buy a green pineapple, i let it ripen EXCEPT for the rare kind that explicitly states "super sweet", then I know it is ripe and ready to open, even in a green state. Re: Anyone Here Ever Bought One of Those Green Pineapples Touted as Ripe?

Anybody else with experience? Did they have any scent or juice? I remember in the good old days when you opened a ripe Hawaiian pineapple copious amounts of delicious juice squirted everywhere like it does now with ripe persimmons. Did they have any scent or juice? Tai yes, especially when you use a knife to cut them open. A whole pineapple makes a lot of juice. I was at a health food store and I bought a cactus fruit and pineapple juice the other week when I visited Palm Springs. IT was so good. I thought I was the first to think of that combo, but no, it's so good together that others have figured it out. the juice was freshly sqeezed. I added beet juice to it to make it healthier. OK, I'll try one. BTW, for the first time ever, I found a sapote at the local Mexican grocery store. It did not look like the ones in your thread. It was really sickly sweet and it was dead sweetness in that it had no distinctive flavor - like a lump of sugar. Re: Anyone Here Ever Bought One of Those Green Pineapples Touted as Ripe?

Date: January 22, 2016 04:28PM Found a few green pineapples this morning. The tags said they was picked ripe. They also said they were sweet and fragrant so I took a pass as they certainly were not fragrant at all. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
