Small glass of juice or soda a day linked to increased risk of cancer, study finds

Just a small glass of juice or soda a day can increase your overall risk for cancer by nearly 20 percent.

That's according to a new study published Wednesday in the medical journal BMJ.

The research looked at more than 100,000 French adults.

The study found that drinking just a small glass of a sugary drink per day – 100 milliliters, or about a third of a typical can of soda – could increase your overall cancer risk by 18 percent, and could increase the risk for breast cancer by 22 percent.

This bigger question: Is this also true for raw fruit juices?

Raw carrot juice is an old remedy for cancer.

Nope! Only plasticized, unfresh, non-organic and pasteurized dead juice.

That is a useless observational study.
Cannot separate out factors like that and make those claims
They are associations not causations

Yup. There's tons of studies out there whose authors somehow convinced granters of money to investigate such foolishness.

My dad smoked from childhood till death, and did not have any smoking related illnesses at all.

He could have lived up to or even past 130 years if he did not smoke.

What a waste.

He did himself and society a great disservice.

I cannot disagree. And if my mum had wheels, she would've been a bus.

My father collapsed one day, he was taken to the hospital, they did some tests, could not figure things out (but it was not heart or lung related), wanted to cut him open, he said no, he did not want that. Died a few days later. Cause not established. He did it his way. The specialist in charge told me that he had never seen such a tough man in his life. FWIW.

A comprehensive data analysis suggests that 100% fruit juice does not have a significant effect on fasting blood glucose, fasting blood insulin, or insulin resistance, according to a new study.

The findings are consistent with previous research indicating that 100% fruit juice is not associated with an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) and support a growing body of evidence that 100% fruit juice has no significant effect on glycemic control...

Although the mechanism by which 100% fruit juice imparts a favorable effect on glycemic control is not clearly known, some evidence, largely from in vitro and animal studies, indicates that polyphenols may favorably affect glucose–insulin homeostasis in a variety of ways. The researchers point specifically to:

-Inhibition of glucose absorption
-Stimulation of insulin secretion from the pancreas and change in glucose release from the liver
-Activation of insulin receptors and glucose uptake by cells
-Modulation of cell signaling pathways and gene expression

Huh! Maybe they gave him something in the hospital that did him in ...

That's how bad hospitals are, just going there and getting tests can shorten your life.
