Liver / bowel Problem - Question for Tai.

Or anyone here who has real world practical experience.

Hi Tai. Seeing as you are very knowledgeable maybe you can offer a comment or two.

I have a friend who lives here in Sydney Australia. She is in her late 50's, or thereabouts, smokes, drinks coffee and has abused her body badly for a long while.

I lost touch with her for a long while but a couple of years ago she contacted me about having all sorts of health issues. She's tried doctors, specialists but nothing has helped. I told her to try giving up coffee, etc and a bit of fasting, juicing and eating raw foods but nothing seemed to work as she got sick even drinking juices. I didn't hear back from her until recently.

Now the day of reckoning has finally has come. She told me they want to take out her bowel as she has trouble with her bowels. Today I was in contact with her and she told me she hadn't eaten for 2 days and only had coffee and water and once she ate she was sick. Something clicked in my head ( i'm not a doctor, trained in anything, just a layman doing his best but has been around the health side for 47 years - I'm 68 now). I thought the reason she gets sick when she eats or drinks might be because her liver is toxic so I asked her if she had her liver checked.

They said her liver was '' shot ''. I don't know how bad it is or if it is beyond repair, but I said that if your liver is shot that could be one of the reasons why you get sick when you eat or drink - even fruit or juices. If it is her liver I said what is the point of taking out your bowel, you should try and heal your liver if it's not too late. The doctors told her the liver has nothing to do with her bowels. I told her everything is connected.

She wanted me to help her but I told her the best thing for her would be to go to a health centre but she doesn't have any money, so I suggested a natural health professional.

D Day for her is January 17 2020 to go back to hospital and get her bowel taken out.Terrible terrible terrible and so sad.

I know that without knowing too much it's hard to offer a comment, but just maybe a general comment.

Thanks

Hi BJ,
Yes all the info is too vague. Generally when someone has a liver problem and has problems with digestion, a Chinese formula called Shu Gan Wan can be very helpful the same day. There is a whole class of formulas on harmonizing the liver with digestive organs.

I recommend she find a Chinese herbalist who has experience with the colon and digestion. Some herbalists and acupuncturists specialize in certain areas and suck at other areas, so she must call around and ask specific questions because all too often most practitioners would accept all cases, even if they aren't qualified.

I once helped an elderly woman who was slated to have her sigmoid removed due to a perforated abcess that wouldn't heal. I convinced the surgeons to give me a chance. I did acupuncture twice a day for 3 weeks, not even one day off. Plus i gave her aloe smoothies twice a day and juice and soft food, plus herbs plus she had some meds that had not been working but she was still on them. Anyway, after 3 weeks which was my deadline by the surgeons, her abcess had healed enough for them to postpone the surgery and by 3 months it was completely healed. In order to do that, I had to wean her off prednisone which causes tissue thinning. By the end of the 3 months, a golf ball sized mass on the ovary was also completely gone too. her case was particularly bad because of a severe infection and the acupuncture really helped with the side effects of the meds and overall healing. St 36 can increase hydrochloric acid, btw. Lots of helpful things with acupuncture.

With regards to this woman not having money...can you imagine what it will be like during her recovery after surgery? Does she have family that will take care of her or will she have to pay for aides? Anyway, paying for a Chinese herbalist to avoid this surgery will save her money in the end. The reason I took on that case of that lady that was going to remove her sigmoid is because I had a dream that she would die. I got paid very little for that case because she was poor, but I knew she would have died if she had surgery. I am not saying that surgery is wrong for your friend. I don't know the case. Just sharing a natural healing case where surgery was avoided but it took tremendous work.

a few take away points for your friend:
- try Chinese herbal formulas asap (xiang sha liu jun zi tang is a formula that can help nausea, appetite, etc and Shu gan wan can help harmonize liver and digestive organs, etc. A dozen possibilities, no time to list)
- milk thistle seed can help heal the liver, but it's a slow process but things can get better
-fresh raw aloe can help to heal colon, but it has a cold nature which might only be introduced after the the other herbs settle her stomach
-obviously every day counts. natural healing is slow. if she wants to try, she must start today, especially since new years, everything will be closed

Thanks Tai.

She has a son and a daughter but I don't know if they would help her financially. Like you say, she would need to find a Chinese Herbalist who deals with these things and also understands natural health and healing and is aware of her history.

Not everyone is as kind hearted as you - or as knowledgeable. Time is running out for her. I'm not her family and hadn't seen or heard from her for many years. I suppose she reached out to me because she knew of my longstanding interest in natural healing and nutrition. I think it may now be too late for me to get involved much more - and only over 2 weeks to go.

Thanks for the prompt reply, much appreciated.

It's not that complicated or expensive to try Chinese herbs. The formulas I mentioned cost like $10-$20 in the United states. It's just a matter of making some phone calls to the local chinese acupuncturists/herbalists in the area and see who is a good herbalist and try the best one. I mention Chinese herbal formulas because they work SO WELL for digestive problems and colon issues. Naturopaths might be able to fix it, but they usually are very expensive (you mentioned money is an issue for her) and if they only use homeopathy, it is usually too slow. But a naturopath who uses raw herbs or extracts might be sufficient. Whichever, just try someone, east or west.

At least make a few calls. I have heard of too many suicides after those surgeries. Look, in this study, 60% contemplated suicide after surgery. It's worth making an effort if you consider her a friend.
[Quality of life of post-colostomy patients].
Sixty percent admitted considering the option of suicide at least once.

Janette Wakelin is in Melbourne. She might know of someone who can help her. She used a naturopath to help her with aggressive breast cancer and she cured it along with raw veganism.

Chinese medicine treats the whole body, it is a more efficient approach.

Today I was in contact with my friend and she has a son and a daughter. I asked her, '' I know you don't like to ask, but maybe you could ask them for a loan of 6 - 8 thousand dollars for 3 or 4 weeks somewhere at a healing centre. " She replied that " if I asked them, they would give it to me straight away, but I know it's too late ''.

Also, maybe in her situation the centres may not even want to accept her as the risk is too great. Australia is such a closed over-regulated place. If you go to hospital and die, or die soon afterwards then they say '' she had the best medical care available ''.
If she were to go to a health retreat and have serious complications and was rushed to hospital and died then it would be on the news and there would be a subsequent Coroners Inquiry and I don't want to be responsible or be involved at a Coroners Inquiry for '' sending '' her there, or even be on the paper trail.

I will see if she has been to any TCMs', but time is fast running out. Most will readily accept her and her $$$$'s without having deep knowledge or experience, but if she hasn't then it might be worth a try, otherwise I don't want to get too deeply involved. This is probably something her son and daughter should be pursuing, but they aren't familiar with natural healing, herbalism, etc.

I think the person dealing with her would have to decide what herbs to give her, but without her being able to give up smoking, coffee, eating the wrong foods and everything else i don't know how that would go. At least if you went somewhere you can fast, rest, have diluted juices, an enema if you bowels aren't working and there are no outside influences like coffee, smoking and you can give your body a rest - from yourself.

I even asked her, '' once you've had your bowel taken out will you be able to eat normally, will you be okay? They can't tell her.'

Thanks Tai and RP.

I asked my friend if she has been to see a TCM who deals with colons and digestion. Also, she's been in hospital once for something or other. I didn't ask her, but once they start on you it's probably safest to keep out of it.

Thanks again, and I'll keep you posted if there is any news in future.

I saw there are two Chinese herb shops in Sydney. The woman is going to have her colon removed, so there is nothing to fear in taking herbs beforehand. The worst is already slated to happen. Did you tell your friend my story that I helped a woman save her sigmoid colon with acupuncture, aloe smoothies, fresh raw juices, and some herbs? They were going to remove it and I helped to save it. Because if you told her my story, then she might have the courage to swallow something she normally wouldn't, either from a naturopath or a Chinese herbalist. if you don't want to get involved, tell her my story and let her or her kids make the phone calls. She just needs a little faith that it's possible.

Yeah, America is obviously different. In southern California, there are 1 million Chinese here and Chinese medicine is commonplace.

It doesn't take much to share a bit of info with your friend, as I showed you that 60% of people with that surgery contemplate suicide. Have you ever seen videos of people who have to change their waste bags? That's why they think about suicide. She should try something before the surgery.

You never even told us her diagnosis. Is her diagnosis colitis or Crohns? Could a fruit diet help? Forget about the zoo story with fruit. We are not talking about tooth decay here. we are talking about a diseased colon. Now she has 3 choices, Chinese herbs, naturopathy and a fruit diet. What I did to save a woman's sigmoid is to combine all 3 (I used a lot fruit but not exclusively fruit), but one is better than nothing.

Give her David's info below.

Tai, thanks for your time and effort. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

I've just about tried everything with my friend. She's not a close friend and I haven't seen her in over 25 years. If she hadn't been having any problems I may never have heard from her again, but when she reached out to me I tried my best.

I asked her if she had seen any herbalists, but got no reply. There was no mention of pursuing a visit to a healing retreat. She's not computer literate as I also mentioned going to Youtube as there are many success stories. Her daughter is well educated so she could have asked her daughter, but no reply.

Today was probably my last attempt. I keep asking her questions and today's reply was, '' I don't know but I'm going to see them on Wednesday ( Jan 8 ) and I want to find out what's happening to me. I live in pain day and night, it's really bad''.

I ended up texting your healing story to her ( minus the 60% suicide rate ) and her reply was, '' the mind is very powerful ''. I replied '' this has nothing to do with the mind, this is addressing the problem and helping the body heal itself with natural foods and herbs ''.

In the end I asked her once again what her Kids thought she should do as they are pivotal to all this, but I got no answer. In her case after abusing her body for many many years she needs to be saved from herself in an environment where all conditions are conducive to healing. That's why I think she needs to go somewhere. She's not a dear friend or a relative so for me that's as far as I can go. I did my best and tried my hardest.

I probably eat more fruit than 99.9% of the people in Sydney so I'm not down on fruit, but that's another story.

At least you tried BJ.
She can always call David Klein for an hour and get a little help, even if she just changes her diet to prepare for surgery.

About that photo with all those piles of whole, coarse herbs. I don't know of any Chinese herbalists who dispense those anymore. Except maybe to old people from China who like the old ways. Just guessing here. Just about all formulas (and even some single herbs) are in convenient powdered form where you just add hot water. I imagine that this has helped mightily with compliance - some people will simply not wait 45 minutes for the herb mixture to cook up on the stove.
