Funny, no one seemed to consider what to do with the massive amount of wind turbine blades once they reached the end of their lifespan. Thus, the irony of the present-day Green Energy Movement is the dumping of thousands of tons of “non-recyclable” supposedly renewable wind turbine blades in the country’s landfills.

Who would have thought? What’s even worse, is that the amount of wind turbine blades slated for waste disposal is forecasted to quadruple over the next fifteen years as a great deal more blades reach their 15-20 year lifespan. Furthermore, the size and length of the newly installed wind turbine blades are now twice as large as they were 20-30 years ago.

Jennifer, I did not know anything about the blades and their major role in yet more pollution. I've driven thru huge wind turbine sites; it was absolutely creepy in a way I can't really articulate. It is shocking how very, very large they are.

That's true! I forgot what substance they're spraying, so I'll have to look it up. Last week my daughter in CA said she saw an airplane spraying something. Brook, both of the Environment Institute and School of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Adelaide in Adelaide, Australia, note that even a loss of 2 billion people over the course of five years still would not be enough of a depopulation effort to do the earth much good.

'Catastrophic human event' needed?

The paper, titled, "Human population reduction is not a quick fix for environmental problems," states the issue thusly, in a summary; note that the authors have already essentially concluded what the problem is and who is responsible (my emphasis):

The planet's large, growing, and overconsuming human population, especially the increasing affluent component, is rapidly eroding many of the Earth's natural ecosystems. However, society's only real policy lever to reduce the human population humanely is to encourage lower per capita fertility. How long might fertility reduction take to make a meaningful impact? We examined various scenarios for global human population change to the year 2100 by adjusting fertility and mortality rates (both chronic and short-term interventions) to determine the plausible range of outcomes. Even one-child policies imposed worldwide and catastrophic mortality events would still likely result in 5-10 billion people by 2100. Because of this demographic momentum, there are no easy ways to change the broad trends of human population size this century.

Except, perhaps, some sort of mass casualty/pandemic/world war? That is the possibility the authors examine in the body of their work. In the paper's abstract, the authors talk of the "inexorable demographic momentum" of the growing human population, which is, of course, "rapidly eroding Earth's life-support system" (though there is no proof of this, notice how the authors state it as fact)

A mini ice age could hit the Earth in the 2030s, the first such event to occur since the early 1700s. New mathematical models of the Sun's solar cycle developed at Northumbria University suggest solar activity will see a "significant" drop, causing temperatures on Earth to plummet.

The last mini ice age occurred between 1645 and 1715 and caused temperatures in northern Europe to fall dramatically, with London's River Thames freezing over during winter and sea ice extending for miles around the UK. The prolonged cold snap, known as the Maunder Minimum, has been linked to a reduction in the number of sunspots, as observed by scientists at the time.
