What's going on with the 'Supply Chain'?
Posted by: Jennifer ()

I've been hearing for a while that shortages are happening again. And my supermarket has some bare shelves again these days. Today, they had a sign on the door that they're only going to be open until 9:00 now. I asked someone why that is and they said it's because they don't have enough staff.

Of Course, because everybody gets paid by the government not to work - oh, except for those Unvaccinated people who lost their jobs because of the VACCINE MANDATES! angry smiley

And today, on CBS TV show, they had a segment about the situation. They showed how all the supplies are coming in to America, like usual. But - they're just sitting in trailers and can't be moved because of -

Truckers!

So, I haven't looked up the whole 'real story', but if I remember right - Truckers were MANDATED THEY HAD TO BE VACCINATED! So of course, like half of them had to Quit!

Oh, yeah - Thanks to THE OTHER SIDE! The ENABLERS OF and the PLANNERS of THE PLANDEMIC!

Yes, it makes me mad! It should make everybody who is ANTI-LOCKDOWN/ANTI-MASK/ANTI-VAX/ANTI-MANDATES mad!

And no way am I cozying up to THE OTHER SIDE!

According to this Whistle Blower it's all being held back on purpose:

WHISTLEBLOWER: LA Port Worker Says Shortages are FAKE!

Thanks, NuNativs! That was good. He mentioned that one problem is the AI program was wrong, and now there are a lot of goods just sitting there with no demand for them. Like I said previously, some Doctors I follow - Dr. Carrie Madej - said the Hospitals Protocol for Covid patients is now AI, and it's killing people.

The whistleblower doesn't think the Truckers are affecting the supply shortage that much, but when I researched it - the Vaccine Mandate for truckers is affecting the situation. I read that besides the Trucking Companies mandating the vaccines for their workers, the warehouses or wherever it is that the Truckers go to pick up their loads of goods, don't allow any Truckers in who aren't vaccinated.

Here's an article that explains the situation pretty well -

If Truckers Like Me Won’t Comply, Biden’s Vaccine Mandate Could Tank The Economy

Forcing all truck drivers to take injections against COVID-19 poses significant challenges to an already struggling U.S. transportation industry, on which the nation’s commerce depends.

Ships are piling up at Long Beach waiting to get unloaded.

MSM says California port situation caused by driver shortage.

Not so fast: It is in part caused by California Truck Ban which says all trucks must be 2011 or newer & a law called AB 5 which prohibits Owner Operators.

I hope everyone here is stockpiling food and water. This may necessitate some canned, therefore cooked, food.

Of course, it may be a matter of time before govt makes it illegal to have anything more than a week's supply of food. However, I'll take my chances.

What on earth is going on in California with those new stupid rules???

I've always stockpiled toilet paper, paper towels, detergent, and tissues when they were on sale, but so far no food and water. I want to get sprouting seeds for sprouts and microgreens, nuts, nut butters and dried fruit at least, but I haven't had the initiative yet. Also want to get a handpump for our well so we'll have water when the power goes out. Because I'm a natural hoarder, I have lots of pasta, superfoods, supplements and old food throughout the house, loads of clothes, bedding, supplies like plastic bags, rubber bands, you name it, I have it. I'll be the go-to person in my neighborhood when the SHTF. Oh, except where I live is all Libs/Vaxxers and it's all their fault for enabling this crap, so I'm not sharing my stuff with the likes of them.angry smiley

I wish we had gotten guns and ammunition when the getting was good.

Re: The shortages until everyone is vaxxed.

Once most of the population is dead, of course, there will be more supply than demand, at least short term. Long term, we need people to make things.

That that is even plausible is freaky ...

Long term, we need people to make things.

Yes, that's what some people or groups who are forward thinkers, organized or whatever - survivalists mentality - are talking about. Planning for a future where we all have to take care of ourselves, organize into communities of like-minded people, and all that. They're talking about what kind of people we'll need in our groups. Nurses, gardeners, builders, and I can't think of what else. Seamstress, herbalists. I guess we don't need blacksmiths - that was the old days. Maybe mechanics.

Thanks, Jennifer with your ideas of organizing into communities.

On a kind-of related topic, did you realize that the biggest driver of environmental destruction is the existence of large numbers of persons living alone, when such a thing is not even necessary? Some generations ago, people in the western world decided that as soon as Junior finished high school, out the door he must go! Millions upon millions over the past 60 years kicked out even when too immature to resist the evils of our society with no elders to put the brakes on. Unsupervised, unsafe lives, often with a roommate with no more brains or understanding of the world.

5 people living in a house normally have one refrigerator, one stove, etc. One person living alone also needs one apartment or house, one refrigerator, one stove, and everything else that is shared in a multi-person household. Do the math, kids. The destruction of forests, the overuse of natural resources, the pollution - all because of our excessive individualism. It all starts with sticking baby in a crib and letting him/her cry themselves to sleep.

I ain't complaining about young adults who can't stand their parents and want to get out but am referring to those who really want to live with their parents while working at a job or pursuing higher education. .

We used to live down the street from a Paki family. This was a nice house, nice neighborhood. All the kids of all ages lived together in that house with the parents, including one who was a doctor (MD). I recall reading on Quora where a woman from Cuba said even if an adult child was useless, as long as he did no harm, he was still welcome to live with his parents and the whole dam family. Yes, it is true. Us white people are too smart by half.

Thanks for allowing me to indulge my hobby horse.

Of course, some of the problems of the Supply Chain is related to The Left's plethora of Rules, Regulations, Control, always creating more Government Bureaucracy and their War on The Gig Economy/Independent Contractors. Government control of everything and everybody -

California Derails Supply Chain

Various state policies are drying up the supply of truckers, but PolitiFact says such claims are “mostly false” so there’s nothing to see here.

[spectator.org]

Sacramento

Nearly 40 percent of cargo shipped into the United States enters through the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, but container ships — which typically unload quickly and head back to Asia — are backlogged dozens deep and often for days. The ports have moved toward 24/7 operations, but the bottleneck there is wreaking havoc on the nation’s supply chain.

“In L.A., even if barges are unloaded more quickly onto the docks, there aren’t enough truck drivers and available warehouses to prevent bottlenecks from forming elsewhere,” the New York Times reported. “After all, it’s a supply chain, and the port is just one link.” Problems at the Los Angeles ports are increasing pressure up and down the West Coast, from San Diego to Tacoma, Wash.

The key problem is an insufficient number of truckers to take these consumer goods off the ships and to warehouses and stores across the nation. Mainstream analysts noodle the many reasons that fewer people want to drive trucks these days, and focus on banal trends such as the aging workforce and drivers who quit over the fear of getting COVID.

The nation is home to 3.5 million professional truck drivers, so there are millions of reasons why individuals stay or leave that profession, but, apparently, it’s off base to talk about one of the more obvious reasons that California has too-few truckers. Various state-specific public policies have significantly reduced the number of drivers.

For instance, one viral Facebook post said that the problem “is in part caused by a California truck ban, which says all trucks must be 2011 or newer, and a law called AB 5, which prohibits owner operators.” Both of those laws are in effect, and a wide range of academics and policy makers would agree that they are “part” of the problem, but somehow that legitimate discussion is outside the bounds of reasonable debate.

Politifact, the fact-checking journalism service that often reads more like an opinion page, cited the above post and proceeded to declare its claim “mostly false.” That’s odd, because the original post didn’t claim that it was the entire problem, but only part of it. PolitiFact even admits that, “California’s trucking regulations may have had an impact on port backups, but there’s more to it.”

There’s always more to everything than any one simple explanation, but the port backups are unquestionably — and in part — the result of insufficient truckers, and three particular California public policies have made it a lot tougher to operate a truck in the state.

I’ve frequently covered one of those policies on the pages of The American Spectator. In 2018, the California Supreme Court issued its Dynamex decision, which imposes an “ABC Test” on employers for determining whether they may use contractors rather than permanent employees as their workforce. They could only do so in some strictly limited instances, meaning that most businesses — including trucking companies — must rely on salaried employees.

This has wreaked havoc on the trucking industry, which relies heavily on owner-operators. PolitiFact pointed to a Los Angeles Times article noting that, “Some 13,000 truckers regularly serve the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Just a few hundred are classified as employees, despite a decade-long organizing campaign by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.”

The U.S. Supreme Court recently refused to hear one trucking company’s appeal of a California court ruling that upheld Assembly Bill 5, the state law that codified the Dynamex decision. The Legislature exempted more than 100 industries from the law after it led to widespread layoffs and voters exempted ride-sharing companies such as Uber and Lyft, but left the trucking industry in the lurch. (The California Trucking Association’s lawsuit challenging the law on interstate commerce grounds remains active, but the matter is not yet resolved.)

PolitiFact dismisses any impact on the ports given that the courts have imposed a temporary injunction on the law’s implementation regarding truckers, but that ignores what we’ve seen in other AB 5-related matters. Companies must prepare for its eventual implementation and this most likely plays some part in a declining number of drivers willing to work in California. That’s not much of a leap.

The second matter involves that “truck ban,” by which the California Air Resources Board (CARcool smiley passed in 2008 a regulation that bans the registration of large trucks that pre-date 2011 or have engines built before 2010. The PolitiFact writer dismisses any impact that rule might have by quoting — as her main source on the matter — the communications director for CARB. Well, that certainly settles it.

The engine ban hasn’t instantaneously led to the port back up, but over the years it has reduced the number of truck drivers on the road because it has imposed such enormously high costs on drivers who owned older trucks. That rule has taken around 200,000 trucks off the road and, according to industry estimates, reduced the number of available construction trucks by 20 percent.

Maybe PolitiFact considers this “mostly false” information, but if the state dramatically reduces the number of trucks on the road, it ought not to be surprised that there are far fewer trucks available to offload cars, groceries, and washing machines at the Port of Los Angeles.

One less-known news event — and one that stems from incompetence rather than ideological fervor — is the California Department of Motor Vehicles’ ongoing inability to efficiently get newly trained truck drivers their commercial drivers’ licenses. The San Bernardino Sun reported recently on potential truck drivers who have camped out at DMV offices simply to get in the queue to take their driving tests.

One might blame the problem on a sudden surge in demand, but this has been going on for years. “The commercial side of the DMV is so backlogged that if you finished your truck driving courses today, you’d have to wait 56 business days for an appointment to take your driver’s license test,” the office of Assemblyman Jim Patterson, R-Fresno, told me in 2017.

Of course, there are multiple reasons for the backlogs at the ports, but these state trucking regulations and bureaucracies have contributed, in part, to the problem. Overall, I’d rate the PolitiFact analysis as “mostly false, ideologically driven nonsense.”

Interesting point of view, Horsea! I never even thought of that angle - that people should live with multiple people to save the environment ...

did you realize that the biggest driver of environmental destruction is the existence of large numbers of persons living alone, when such a thing is not even necessary?

5 people living in a house normally have one refrigerator, one stove, etc. One person living alone also needs one apartment or house, one refrigerator, one stove, and everything else that is shared in a multi-person household. Do the math, kids. The destruction of forests, the overuse of natural resources, the pollution - all because of our excessive individualism.

I would agree that it may be more environmentally friendly, less destruction of the environment, etc., but I strongly believe that if anybody wants to live alone instead of with others, they are definitely entitled to live alone. I couldn't imagine having to live with other people when it wasn't my choice. Even family, anybody. It's necessary for my sanity and happiness to live alone or with whomever I choose. Not to 'have to' live with others. I had to live with roommates for eight years until I could afford my own apartment and it was icky. thumbs up

Some generations ago, people in the western world decided that as soon as Junior finished high school, out the door he must go! I ain't complaining about young adults who can't stand their parents and want to get out but am referring to those who really want to live with their parents while working at a job or pursuing higher education.

Yeah, that was me. I left home as soon as I graduated high school with nothing but a summer job waiting for me, and 'made my way in the world' like the three little piggies. And that was what was expected in my family and other families in my locale in my day and age.

But in my own nuclear family since I had children, my girls were always welcome to stay home, live at home, or to come back home whenever they want or need to.

*********

More thoughts on the subject -

We used to live down the street from a Paki family. This was a nice house, nice neighborhood. All the kids of all ages lived together in that house with the parents, including one who was a doctor (MD).

Oh, wow! I couldn't imagine living in a family - like Italians or Pakistani or whatever cultures there are - where you have to live at home with your parents and siblings until you're married or whatever. It must be horrible to be stuck with people for years or all your life, that you don't like or get along with! And in a family, there's bound to be at least one pain in the *ss.

And when we get old, and our kids want us to 'downsize' and live in a dinky house or they stick us in a nursing home - with tons of other stupid people - where they kill us off in six months to a year. A fate worse than death.

The thought of losing my Independence horrifies me. That's one of many reasons I eat healthy, etc., so I can Be Independent for the rest of my life!

Sorry for the rant, but that whole concept of having to live with other people all your life shocks me because I just can't stand having to put up with people I don't like!

No, I don't think anyone should HAVE to live with others if they don't want. Just pointing out the obvious here: that with our society/culture/country dissolving, it is getting harder and harder to find affordable housing and whether we like it or not we are going to have to double up. It is just a matter of time. That, or take up residence under a bridge.

And when we get old, and our kids want us to 'downsize' and live in a dinky house or they stick us in a nursing home - with tons of other stupid people - where they kill us off in six months to a year. A fate worse than death.

Old folks today may very well end up in a nursing home if that is what is needed. Have you seen the vast majority of very old people nowadays? This is not the early 20th, 19th and previous centuries anymore, where when you got old you died pretty fast of pneumonia or something similar instead of the ghastliest degenerative diseases imaginable, where hospitals kept you "alive" because it keeps the medical industry and their good jobs going.

Yes, I hope that you can keep independent in a manner of your choosing for the rest of your days (me too) - but that may not be our decision to make. Outside forces will remove our choices in most things. Already, the socalled "supply chain" is having trouble, which you commented on. The govt in Washington is openly welcoming illegals from everywhere on earth by the millions (they travel to South America and then swan into Texas) and they hate us. Mandatory killshots for more and more segments of the population.

We're not in Kansas anymore.

Yes, you are correct in all that you said. I'm sensitive about living with someone who I don't like from when I was growing up.

I already heard about the DNR thing where you stipulate you don't want to be resuscitated. I read about CPR, where they get on top of you and pound your chest a bunch of times to get you to breathe and it breaks your ribs, etc., and most people end up dead anyway. (That may be an exaggeration) And I don't want to be kept hooked up to tubes and then when they decide you should die, they withhold food and water and I read that slowly dying that way is painful. (Again, maybe not totally accurate, but you know what I mean. Not a nice way to die)

I think I read that a Hospice is a nicer place than a nursing home because people can get better and end up leaving the Hospice. Plus, I think if you're in pain, they'll give you actual morphine, which a painless death works for me.

The govt in Washington is openly welcoming illegals from everywhere on earth by the millions (they travel to South America and then swan into Texas) and they hate us.

Right. The latest - giving Illegals $450,000 of Taxpayer money in reparations for being separated at the border. Oh, that's only for those who Trump separated, not those Illegals separated by Obama and Biden because we're supposed to think that never happened under their watch ...

Biden administration debates paying 'hundreds of millions' to families separated at the border

Payments would be made to families affected by Trump's zero-tolerance immigration policy, according to the report
