Date: January 19, 2007 12:55PM Plantains are close relatives of bananas. When I need a banana I would buy plantain instead. [sarasota.extension.ufl.edu]
Most bananas are hybrid with no seed. You can easily find plantain with seeds. I use when ripe in my smoothies. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/19/2007 12:56PM by djatchi. Re: plantains

Date: January 19, 2007 02:21PM I used to eat them raw when I lived in Thailand. I've never understood why people say you need to cook them. Just make sure they're really soft and ripe. Delicious.
