Plantains are close relatives of bananas. When I need a banana I would buy plantain instead. [sarasota.extension.ufl.edu]

Most bananas are hybrid with no seed. You can easily find plantain with seeds. I use when ripe in my smoothies.

I used to eat them raw when I lived in Thailand. I've never understood why people say you need to cook them. Just make sure they're really soft and ripe. Delicious.

Is there anything questionable about plantains? Why is Doug Graham opinion on this important.
