What's Your Favorite Fruit?
Posted by: Yogamama ()
Date: January 22, 2007 06:32PM

...or favorite thing to eat on the raw food diet?

My favorite fruits are passion fruit and mangos. I could eat those two things all day long!

I tried a sapote the other day and thought it was really bland and boring - did I just get a bad one?

Yogamama,

The fruit in the photo is a white sapote, one of my favorite fruits; however, if the skin is green as is shown in the picture, they're awful! You have to know how to select them. When the skin is yellow, they can be heavenly! In any case, the flavor won't jump out at you. They're appreciated more for their creamy texture although if you're fortunate enough to get them fresh picked, perhaps that would not be the case. Also, the ones shown in the picture are small. The large ones tend to be better.

ok thanks. The skin was green, but I wouldn't say it was awful, it was really soft and creamy, just not much taste. Thanks for the info! smiling smiley

Yogamama,

Perhaps then you peeled the skin? The skin on the green ones can be bitter. I'd always just bite into them, skin & all.

Oh, yes, I did not eat the skin. Wasn't sure if I was supposed to, and it felt really tough, so I didn't eat it. Kind of glad that I didn't!!

Favorite fruits:

watermelon, sweet oranges, muscadine grapes

Hmmm. . . . . I also love papaya, mamey, passionfruit, honeydew, mangoes off the tree, and fresh dates.

I love white sapote. It tastes like a delicate sugar cube to me. Pure, creamy, white.

Great thread, Yogamama!

Julie

fresh strawberries... I just love them... for some reason I even find their shapes to be erotic, not overtly mind you but beautiful curves like a woman's body. I love how when I bite into one they kind of exlode in my mouth and each one has its own unique character... mmmmmm yummy. I also love fresh picked canteloupe and watermelon. Cherries are the best and peaches.. oh man do I love fresh peaches.... when they are so juicy the juice runs down your arms. It's like eating a blessing. Wholly crap I can't wait until this summer to get fresh peaches from Vancouver and Washington, state.... mmmmm

I love different fruits too like papaya, cherimoya and pineapple.. oh I forgot mangoes.... can't get enough amazing mangoes.

Does anyone know what a cherimoya is supposed to taste like? I tried one that was bland and a little molsdy so it testaed aweful! Also I heard that the texture is supposed be like custard, but it was more like that of an apple! Different sources give me different descriptions!

Once you taste custard apple, you won't like cherimoya(same family). Atleast I don't.

I second the DURIAN!!!!!!!!!!

Otherewise, it depends on the season. In fig and watermelon season, I'm obsessed. In persimmon season I'm also obsessed.

There are just so damn many YUMMY fruits. I never would have guessed that one day I'd be eating a mostly-fruit diet. But now that I'm here, every meal is like dessert, and going grocery shopping is like a trip to the candy store!!

Love,
Uma

My favorite fruit is the next one I'm going to eat smiling smiley

I love the way the seasons work with fruit. Just about the time I start to get bored with one favorite the next one comes into season. For the past year it has been: Late Winter '06 it was Ataulfo and Madame Francek mangos, Spring it was early melons and a variety of stone fruits - nothing to get obsessed with though, Summer through early Fall if was watermelon-watermelon-and-more-watermelon Fall to Early Winter it was fresh dates and persimmons.

Interspersed in the aforementioned beauteous fruits were varying quantities of strawberries, banannas, avocados, tomatoes, black and blue berries, figs, melons, cukes and squashes.

To me banannas are the raw foodist's equivalent to rice. Especially in the winter when the variety of fruits is minimalized where I live.

Somewhere in between all this comes the King of Fruits, the Durian. My fantasy vacation it to go somewhere in Durian Season with a lover and find out what is too much.

Funny thing happened when I became totally raw. I lost my taste for apples.
I live 25 feet from an organic peach and apple orchard, but so far the desire hasn't returned.

I didn't mention all the other tropical fruits because I don't see them in my local stores very often and they are very expensive here. That's why I'm looking forward to my winter vacation to Costa Rica and the beginning of mango season there.

Love from Uti
