Does anyone have a recipe for a beverage, that is raw vegan, and comparable to the nutrients in milk? Thanks!

This is not a nutritional match for milk.

Was hoping to find a raw vegan recipe, that mimics the same nutrients in goat or cow milk.... I like a bowl of sliced up bananas with coconut milk in the morning, like cereal. I was just looking for another alternative for my morning cereal, instead of coconut milk all the time. *scratches my head* hmmm, I'm not sure if anyone understands what I'm looking for. A raw vegan beverage recipe, with the same nutrients as milk, minus B12 and cholesterol,of course. Maybe with a sesame seed base or something else. PS.. I'm allergic to gluten, hemp & soy, so without those three items. Maybe it doesn't exist. Thanks smiling smiley

Sesame seeds have more protein and calcium than cows milk, so making a milk from them would be a good start.

The recipe for any nut or seed milk is roughly the same, soak the seeds, drain and rinse, blend in water (or water which has had dried fruit soaking in it for a sweeter milk), and strain through a muslin bag/cheesecloth.

I doubt you're going to get anything which exactly mimics cows milk, but if you think about what it is that is important for you from the cows milk you can find somthing which has that.

What about tahini milk? It's high in protein and calcium.

Yes, that's what I was thinking too, maybe tahini & dates, plus, what ever I can bling it out with to make it yummier & more nutritious.

Thanks! smiling smiley

We put dates, carob and honey in ours. It is like a foamy chocolate milk. Drink it right away, if it sits blend it up again.

one to two tablespoons tahini with a blender full of water, a couple of dates and some honey if you like.

The seeds to water quantity doesn't mater too much - it will just vary the thickness of the milk. You need enough water for your blender to be able to blend (which obviously depends on how powerful it is). What I do is put the seeds (or nuts) in the blender and add enough water to cover them, and then a bit more. Just experiment, you can't really go wrong!

This isn't a milk, but for a holiday treat, try this:

Hemp Nog

1/4 cup hemp seeds
5-6 dates
1 banana
dash of nutmeg (optional)
dash of vanilla (optional)
12 oz water

If you don't have a powerful blender, grind the hemp seeds in a coffee grinder. If the dates aren't soft, soak them first in water. Blend.

Btw, I would use whole sesame seeds rather than tahini: although tahini seems easier and quicker, it is usually made with hulled sesame seeds and all the calcium in sesame is in the hull! The omega 3-6 ratio is also much better in whole sesame seeds than it is in hulled sesame seeds or in hulled sesame tahini.
