It's really bad!

One day, my daughter and I read a huge article about just how bad aspartame really is for a person, so I decided that if we were ever going to buy gum for a special treat, it would have to contain real sugar. Sugar might be bad, but if I had to chose between that and aspartame, well....

Do you know, we had a really hard time finding any brand of gum any more sweetened with just good old-fashioned sugar - they all add aspartame - interesting! Go ahead, check for yourself, see if you have better luck than we did!

Sometimes, if I really want something to chew on like that, I will pick up some dried mangoes from the health food store. They aren't treated with stuff, so they are dark brown, and I can't vouch for the temperature, so not sure if they would really be considered raw, but you can chew a piece of dried mango for a pretty long time, and it's really sweet. Be careful though, the ones at the grocery store look really pretty, but I am sure they are loaded with additives.

Wonder if anyone else can suggest any good substitutes?

Good luck,
Sapphire

I've read that chewing on licorice bark is a really good way to knock sugar cravings.

My son said that if the whole world was distroyed by a nuclear blast, only 2 things would survive, cockroaches & gum.

If gum could survive a nuclear blast, imagine gum in your stomach, since the residue of gum goes into your digestive system.

When my son told me this, I've never chewed gum since.

Some heathfood shops have like Amazon gum... I haven't read the ingredients so I can't tell you if gum like that is better but shop around -there are ALWAYS alternatives.

Hey There,
As a substitute for gum, have you tried dehydrated strawberries? Also, there are more natural versions of gum at your healthfood store.

In perusing some literature provided by Prism I found some "dental gum" so thought I'd pass it on. I haven't read anything about it. I just saw it, remembered this thread, so I'm posting it.

This teeth literature is really inspiring!

some insects, however are vegan cuz they are herbivores and they eat leaves, som
and just look at the termite, it eats the fiber of trees
and there is even a bug called 'shoots... i forget the name
but it burrows its way into the leaf and that is how it makes a living

oh but u were talkin about cockroaches
they eat doritos, ding dongs, and hostess twinkies

i guess they're vegan too
