My First Raw Apple Pie.
Posted by: arilraw ()

Good afternoon, all,

The little darlings and I walked down to the local Co-Op today, and after we had a breakfast of pineapple and raw Brazilian nuts and water, we bought everthing we needed to make a raw apple pie for this evening's desert.

I will try to post a picture of it this evening before we eat it.

Have a fine weekend, everyone.

Thanks,

Arilraw

Is the recepi from a book, or did you come up with it by yourself?

Hello, all,

The recipe came from this site!

On the first page of this site, on the right hand side, look under "recipes". Click on it and then scrol down to "Desserts". It's the first recipe.

It took about one half of an hour to make; I let it chill in the fridge for about 8 hours (I made it in the morning, and we had it for dessert in that evening).

What would I do differently?

After cutting up and processing the apples (I put them in a blender and also mixed the contents about with a spoon so I didn't end up with apple sauce), I would drain the juice from the filling. I would also add two bananas to the filling in the recipe to help keep the pie more firm.

At first I considered cutting the amount of raw honey in half, but I figured the lemon and cinamon would cut what had seemed to be an over-powering honey scent and taste; I waited to try the pie later in the day before fooling around with the recipe; well... the apple pie tasted great!

Later today, I'm bringing a few slices down to the Co-Op for Sara to taste -she works in the Happy Belly Deli, and we talk about raw food and recipies often; being the Co-op is where I bought all the ingredients, she knew I was making a pie, so I offered to bring her a few slices.

Last night's main course was a mexican bean dip with chips. Now, don't get excited, only about two thirds of that was raw. I can't seem to really get an authentic tasting Mexican bean taste with out first boiling the beans. Yep, real sour cream too; the guacamole was, of course, raw as was the onions, olives, tomatos and Roamine -oh the salsa was too!

Hmm. Maybe my next project will be making Mexican beans (pinto beans) by simply soaking and mashing, soaking and mashing; then I'll have to figure out how to make raw "sour cream"...

Hey, I better go as it looks like I got more "cookin'" to do.

Have a fine day, everyone!

I made a mexican taco salad all raw and it was great. I made "refried beans" from sprouted garbanzo beans using Allissa Cohen's recipe. I made raw sour cream and guac.(also from Allissa) and put it all on a bed of leattuce. I had guests over and it was a hit. I also made raw "fritos" to go with it.

Hey, that's one fine lookin' pie!

Would you email the recipe? arilraw@yahoo.com

I'll make it this weekend -maybe tomorrow!

Here was what I had after a two and one half hour mountain hike/climb.

I call it, My Killer Salad:
Romaine
Carrots
Red onions
celery
olives
Tahini/garlic dressing

Oh, yeah, it was good!

I know the salad isn't all that photogenic. I think it became shy after I mixed everything around.

I took pictures of my hike/climb. I'll post'em later.

Thanks,

Aril
