In this case-control study there was a strong association with higher zinc intakes and advanced prostate cancer. [www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] They looked at what types of foods were the zinc sources, too. The animal foods (dairy, meat) and wheat were the ones estimated to have the most direct associations. They found that zinc from vegetables was inversely associated. There were many subjects so that was a strength of the study. One weakness, and it is a big one, is that they did not control for kcals, and higher kcal intake in itself would have a strong association and also by itself be associated with higher zinc intake. Here, even the first quintile (11.23 mg of zinc per day) was associated with higher risks in advanced cancer cases. That isn't a very large intake but it's probably much higher than what most people here get. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
