I am looking for good sources of calcium. I eat lots of sesame seeds, but I would like some variety. Any suggestions?

Hey guys thanks!!

I eat lots of walnuts, almonds, and a brazil nut daily for selenium.
At least one orange a day, and a bag of leafies,
but on fitday.com, it still says I am only gettying 50-60% my daily calcium.

Do you think we raw-fooders need maybe less calcium that the SAD-fooders?

Perhaps. All we can do is eat the highest quality foods we know. If you believe supplementation helps - do that as well. I mean, hey, where are cooked-food eaters getting all of their mythical, bio-available calcium? Ha! ha! All a good raw-fooder does is cut out the middle-men and go straight to the source. LOL. I mean, where does cooked food nutrition come from originally - if not fresh, raw plant foods?

You might have something there. I'm not a raw foodist (almost have been the last few weeks though), just came here for some info, but I think that might make sense.

Raw foodists eat alot of alkalizing foods, while SADers eat very acidic foods. The body needs to maintain its alkalinity, especially the blood. If need be, the body will make sacrifices to maintain blood alkalinity, such as leaching calcium from bones. This is likely the reason for high osteoporosis rates. It's not the lack of calcium intake, it's the level of calcium leaching.

So perhaps this calcium leached from the bones, needs to be replaced by high calcium intakes for SADers? Or perhaps they need the high calcium intake for alkalinity to compete with the highly acidic diet? If so, a raw foodist does not need high calcium to replace leached calcium because it is not being leached, and it is not needed for alkalinity since that is gotten from the alkaline diet.

Make sense?
