Date: March 25, 2007 03:02AM I posted this in the gardening section but thought it might get more of a read here
this seemed like an interesting thing ... makes me reconsider reaching for organic on certain foods like if peaches are that heavily sprayed i think i will tend to reach for its organic counterpart and go for the non organic avacado ... i try to buy organic as much as possible but cant afford 100% organic all the time if you go to the website there is a more extensive test result of the same below ..just scroll to the bottom and click view full data set ... eye opener for me whew. www.foodnews.org RANK FRUIT OR VEGGIE SCORE 1 (worst) Peaches 100 (highest pesticide load) 2 Apples 89 3 Sweet Bell Peppers 86 4 Celery 85 5 Nectarines 84 6 Strawberries 82 7 Cherries 75 8 Pears 65 9 Grapes - Imported 65 10 Spinach 60 11 Lettuce 59 12 Potatoes 58 13 Carrots 57 14 Green Beans 53 15 Hot Peppers 53 16 Cucumbers 52 17 Raspberries 47 18 Plums 45 19 Grapes - Domestic 43 20 Oranges 42 21 Grapefruit 40 22 Tangerine 38 23 Mushrooms 37 24 Cantaloupe 34 25 Honeydew Melon 31 26 Tomatoes 30 27 Sweet Potatoes 30 28 Watermelon 28 29 Winter Squash 27 30 Cauliflower 27 31 Blueberries 24 32 Papaya 21 33 Broccoli 18 34 Cabbage 17 35 Bananas 16 36 Kiwi 14 37 Sweet peas - frozen 11 38 Asparagus 11 39 Mango 9 40 Pineapples 7 41 Sweet Corn - frozen 2 42 Avocado 1 43 (best) Onions 1 (lowest pesticide load) Note: We ranked a total of 43 different fruits and vegetables but grapes are listed twice because we looked at both domestic and imported samples. Date: March 25, 2007 06:18AM whoa i would have thought tomato would be rated higher on the list. I always assumed thin skin = buy organic.
is there adifference between being heavily sprayed and the absorbancy levels of each fruits? does that make sense at all? Re: Pesticide Toxity in Fruits and Veggies

Date: March 25, 2007 02:14PM The thing about tomatoes is that they are often genetically engineered. We don't know the effects of that. Re: Pesticide Toxity in Fruits and Veggies

Date: March 26, 2007 02:55AM I hate people, I do. i really loved being with people last night at a concert, it was fun, but when I read stuff like this and also how almonds are going to be mandatorily irradiated with no labeling i want to kill everybody Re: Pesticide Toxity in Fruits and Veggies

Ditto what Thomas says. Glad I'm way over here and you're way over there!! This way is not compatible with Zen practice. This way IS Zen practice. - Dr. Doug Graham Nothing whatsoever should be attached to. - Buddha Re: Pesticide Toxity in Fruits and Veggies

Date: March 26, 2007 03:34PM Hiya Coconutcream, im sorry this post made you feel so bad..it wasnt my intention at all
i just wanted to share it.. it gives me insite as to how i can go about my shopping on a limited budget perhaps a bit better i cant afford 100% organic but i buy organic avacados all the time because i LOVE love LOOOOOVE avacados ... but right now for example they are nearly $4 a peice up here... now if i go for the non organic (at least untill i get a bit richer lol) i could afford the organic strawberries at $2 something or the organic peaches for $1 each it was for information only...not to antagonize anyone.. im sorry if it did loves hugs and kisses - jodi Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
