Date: May 04, 2007 02:14PM I got the same email. It wasn't codex that got defeated, but rather the bill that was going to make supplements into "untested drugs." Still a great victory nonetheless. =) Just started my rawfood journey and blogging daily about it here: [journeyforhealth.blogspot.com] Re: codex defeated -- NOT!

Date: May 04, 2007 05:32PM Guys, we still have a long way to go to fight Codex. In fact, the Senate hasn't even voted on the S. 1082 bill yet; they just added an amendment to it (with a 94-0 vote, which is pretty cool) that protects DSHEA. Bush has promised to veto the bill if any amendments are added to it, however, so the outcome remains to be seen.
It's a great step forward, and shows the power of the people! Now let's get set to finish the job; we'll keep fighting these forces of ignorance and greed with our positive voices of protest and informed dissent, and who knows, maybe we'll create a worldwide groundswell and in a couple years we'll be saying 'Codex defeated.' But right now we need to roll up our sleeves and keep fighting the good fight, because Codex is a formidable foe. Sharrhan: [www.facebook.com] Re: codex defeated

Date: May 05, 2007 02:45AM Is this the bill that affects the raw almonds? If there's a 94 - 0 on the amendment would it be likely there's enough for an override? [rawfoodtrip.blogspot.com] [jugglingforjoy.com] Re: codex defeated

Date: May 05, 2007 03:26AM Hi Fud,
(Welcome to the group, btw!). No, this is another one. There's a lot goin' on lately-- it can make you kind of dizzy! The almond snafu is being perpetrated by the 'Almond Board.'Codex is a comprehensive global agenda of a group of industry insiders and its full name is the Codex Alimentarius directive. We'll be hearing lots more about Codex in the near future. This bill is the FDA 'Revitalization' bill, and it's misnamed, because it's the same old, same old stuff-- Congress giving in to every whim of the pharmaceutical industry because half of the people in Cogress are pretty much bought off by them.
