Missing winter's harvest?

Oddly, I felt better in the colder months. When I just had the breakthroughs which caused my body to lead me to a high fruit/low fat diet, I took to mono-eating citrus fruits for two-three meals with another meal of lettuce and dates, and eventually a fourth one of just dark greens. I really liked the way that felt, but naturally the seasons changed and so must my diet. What I noticed was that while I was excited by the range of melons appearing at the market, they never quite settled with me, especially not in great amounts. Like dark greens, I'm starting to find that my body says 'enough' at a pretty early moment in my mono-meal (1/4 of a small round watermelon today), and I'm kind of still hungry at the end of the day as a result of expecting to have eaten more melons but finding my body actually doesn't like them that much. Before my big change, I thought I was allergic to citrus fruits, but ironically it seems melons are what my body won't tolerate.

I guess I'm just going to have to experiment with not buying more melons, but sticking to things like nectarines, peaches, apricots, and anything else I can find right now that I'm not already eating for breakfast (which is foraged plums and figs.) I don't want to have a year-round dependence on dates, either; especially because I don't have incredible sources of them available to me right now, but I suspect that I haven't really filled the hole with non-sweet fruits. It seems I had just taken a meal pattern that worked well in the winter/spring and decided it was "the plan" that I would follow permanently, instead of keeping things more dynamic and now I have to rethink everything again (or re-feel, rather). It is frustrating to have to do that because it doesn't feel safe or controlled enough for the way I guess my mind still desires despite the fact that my body awakened and started really telling me when I was hungry and full, etc.

I'm wondering do other people that eat this way experience trouble transitioning between seasons? Do you have any advice?

I guess not, but I had a mono-meal of six organic white peaches today instead of melon, and I feel so much better. The happy boy walks alone through the forest.

Hmmmm, I didn't think I did, but just now realized that, yes, I miss some foods when they go out of season and I have to switch - some things just don't agree too well yet.

a huge part of my routine in the winter was a citrus dinner followed by spinach and tomatoes.

oranges or pines, don't really eat any of the above at the moment but its no biggee.

I def switch things up. i've been doing some fats in the afternoon. eve is often mellons or stone fruits. it takes alot of stones to fulfil my hunger (usually exercise after work) so I have to overshoot when I buy. I eat alot of random things also as smaller meals (always mono) then I was doing in the winter.

its not good to make too many plans or rules surrouding what to eat. whats wrong with re-thinking everything?

I think I know what you mean. In the winter, I was eating two large salads a day with 1/2 an avocado each, followed by fruit, desiring more filling things as well as more greens(also could have been due to transitioning to raw). As soon as the weather started warming up, I would make my usual salads and discover I really didn't feel like eating them. I found myself craving fruit, just fruit. It took me a while to break out of my routine, but now I'm just trying to listen to my body. Sometimes I'll still want salad or veggies or something savoury, and other times I'll have a banana-mango-kale smoothie for dinner and it hits the spot perfectly (LOVE when that happens!). It's completely natural for our tastes to shift with the seasons; I say try and go with it, experiment a bit, and accept that it will feel a bit uncomfortable for a while. I definitely know how you feel in terms of things being less controlled, but I also believe it's an important thing to examine and confront.

Thanks for the responses. There isn't really anything wrong with rethinking my daily routine, which I've now started to do, but having only this winter achieved some healing from an eating disorder that lasted 2/3 of my life, there is still some of the feelings of control and wanting a stable pattern "for success" around which caused me to stay with melons for almost two months despite the fact that they never did anything for me. I just don't really know yet what will feel right for me because in my previous years of raw food I was numb and also working with a body that needed foods which would have a certain emotional effect; now it is the opposite, and I'm learning how my body really wants me to eat. Which is good. I wish you all well in your own current eating.
