Horsepower/Wattage recommended for blender?

I am back on raw after a year off. I never purchased a really good blender my first time around and subsequently went through many broken/burned out machines. I want to buy one that has enough wattage of power- 700 doesn't appear to be enough. Also, I want metal, not plastic, around the motor and blades. Seems more sturdy and long-lasting. Vita-mixes are super expensive but I am considering one. But what about Kitchen-Aid and K-tec (or K-tel?) or others? Raw foodists should be the best at judging the power and physical qualities of blenders, so I'm hoping to get some good advice before I spend hundreds. THANKS! the power of this blender seems convincing. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
