greens in my kitchen

i wonder if anyone has any gems of advice for me this is the story i don't have a garden at the mo but i want to grow lots of my own greens am pretty experienced with sunflower greens n wheatgrass but what about lettuce d'you think i can grow these indoors in little pots? am inspired after buying a 'living lettuce' in a little pot, from my local waitrose and i thought how easy it seemed to just grow my own but i'm not sure where to start.... buy some seeds and have a go i guess....i will just wondering if anyone has done this?? thanks  Re: greens in my kitchen

Date: April 20, 2006 11:50PM I'm not an expert but I'm pretty sure that lettuce is grown in cold weather so if you want to grow it in the summer it needs to be shady and it will grow in the spring through fall as well I think. Some kinds may also grow in the winter, (I'm not sure if cabbage is concidered a type of lettuce)
So no I don't think you could grow it in the house it's too warm. Re: greens in my kitchen

Date: April 21, 2006 11:34AM Your biggest problem will be shortage of high intensity full spectrum light. It's hard to simulate this indoors (or it costs lot of power). Hydroponic greenhouse people do it, so you could check that stuff out. Without really strong light you will only grow leggy and spindly crops. Do let us know though how it works!
